I followed the online poll at the JC Press this week concerning what people thought of the job Stanton was doing as president.

Did anyone else notice that on Friday the number of votes jumped from 700+ (after 5 days of polling) to 1200+ in a matter of a few hours? It sits at over 1,300 today.

And, interestingly enough, the percentages - which had been hovering around 42-43% who thought Stanton had done a good job for five days - jumped almost immediately to 50% who thought the same thing.

I'm wondering - and wondering if anyone out their knows - if this was done solely by the p.r. dept of etsu - or did someone run a campaign to get Stanton supporters voting all of a sudden?

I don't put any stock into online polls....no matter what the result

I'm not a huge conspiracy theorist by any stretch, but ETSU would do something like in what is essentially a meaningless online poll. Either that or the JC Press COULD have manipulated the polls, ala the WWE when they do fans pick the opponent matches, though I don't think the local paper boobs have quite the savvy of one of Vince McMahon.

I thought the same thing, I bet either the paper or somebody at ETSU manipulated the results. I also agree with Goldfinger, online polls are pretty much meaningless (unless they say what you want them to), but then again, so are password protected SGA polls at ETSU (depending on the desired result).

Not that it matters, just interesting. I had a meeting today with someone that watches such things. During the conversation, I mentioned the jump in the numbers in the online poll related to Stanton.

I learned that I wasn't the only one - along with 00 - to notice it. It was quite apparent to the folks at the JC Press.

The official theory: ETSU got the word out to staff to get online and vote in the poll. It's just a theory, but probably right.

I haven't been posting this particular thread because of the Stanley Cup, but yeah, even if somehow, someway the poll was legit, it speaks volumes that the distrust of the administration is such that people would theorize they'd do something like this.


Which I do not put past them.
