My Mini Big East Manifesto
1. Have the "Get-Out-of-Jail-Free-Card" extended through 2012-13

2. Get Mikey T. to retire

3. Get rid of most of his Providence stooges in the Big East office - can't believe anyone seriously thinks the BE office is representative of the entire league with so many key positions being held by people with Providence ties.

4. Move BE HQ to NYC. Don't care that it is more expensive, the league office needs more visibility than Providence can provide.

5. Pass a BE standards criteria that requires within 3 years all football schools to have an athletics budget of $35 million or more and that all basketball schools must have an athletic budget of $20 million or more to continue with participation in the league.

6. Wait to see what happens after the 3-year period is up to see if the wheat has been separated from the chaff or not.

Cheers,
Neil

Any idea which schools are currently below those budget numbers? I would guess all the football schools are over 35 million (I hope); but SHU, PC, SJU are all under 20 million.

Using 2006-07 USF is currently below this proposed standard while Cincinnati is just at the cut-off point.

DePaul, Providence, and Seton Hall are all currently below the threshold for the bb schools.

St. John's actually edges out Georgetown for highest athletic budget amongst the bb schools. Both are just under $27 million which is more than $5 million more than Nova and Marquette are spending while the Wildcats and the Golden Eagles are more than $6 million ahead of the other three.

Amongst the C-USA candidates, none of them are at the $35 million threshold. Both UCF and Memphis are just under $30 million while ECU was just under $25 million.

Cheers,
Neil

RE: My Mini Big East Manifesto
My mini manfesto reads like this...

1. Tell MT and The Big East to get stuffed

2. Split the football schools away from the Catholic schools in 2010, and add Memphis

3. Tell ND to join for all-sports, or work out your own bowl agreements (add UCF if ND says no to joining)

4. Call the new conference The BEast, the new commish the Gorilla, and put the office in NYC (@ MSG - if possible)

NOTE: I like Neil's #5 and #6, so I'll stick with 'em. Minimum standards like that will make sure that all schools in The BEast are able to compete equally with Division 1A opposition. I had something similar in mind, but Neil's was better.

Cincinnati's budget has been steadily climbing. It's actually slightly ahead of where then-AD Bob Goin projected it to be. With the new Big East television package kicking in the budget should increase even more.

Memphis broke the 30 million mark in 2008...so our budget is now just OVER 30 million. (per RC Johnson)

Go Tigers!!!
