My BCS Fix
*7 BCS Conferences, all with 12-teams, 2 divisions. (not arguing the teams, that can be decided later).
ACC, Big East, SEC, Big Ten, Big XII, MWC, Pac-12

All teams must follow this same format.

1-OOC
2-OOC
3-OOC
4-OOC
5-Divisional (annually, home & home)
6-Divisional (annually, home & home)
7-Divisional (annually, home & home)
8-Divisional (annually, home & home)
9-Divisional (annually, home & home)
10-Non-Divisional (primary cross-over) (annually, home & home) (your non-div. RIVAL)
11- Non-Divisional (every 2 years, home & home)
12- Non-Divisional (every 2 years, home & home)

13- Conference Title game (winner Division A, vs. winner Division B)

RULES: all conference games count toward conference record. Set it up so all the tie-breakers are the same for every conference. Every conference must have 12 teams with 2 divisions.

-------------

BCS (a true Bowl Championship “Series” of games). These games must take each BCS conference champion, unless they are below a certain universal cut-off line in the BCS formula. If so, the formula would be used to select an at-large team (that would be the next highest ranked team in the BCS polls) to fill that spot. All remaining open spots in the BCS games will be filled with at-large bids (regardless of conference BCS or “non-BCS” conferences) following the same format as above.

Once the BCS selections are made, all other bowl games can start making their final selections for the bowl season.

-------------

There are 2 ways to set up the BCS using bowl games. There is the Plus One model (whether seeded or not seeded) or the “playoff” model. Personally, I think the (+1) model non-seeded is the best next step, as all BCS games that would be played would mean something and all winners would have the potential to get selected in the next round of voting to the BCS Championship game. The seeded (+1) model only makes 2 games worth anything and devalues the other BCS games, making them no more important than the regular bowl games played before them. Which is not a good thing. If we can’t do the playoff, then the Unseeded +1 model is the best option. It also allows the Pac-10/Big Ten Champions match-up EVERY year in the Rose Bowl, where the seeded option would not. Below, the (+1) will be set up non-seeded, but it could go either way. Below that will be the “Playoff” model.

BCS (+1) Unseeded Model
----------------------------------

Orange Bowl - ACC vs. Big East
Sugar Bowl - SEC vs. At-Large
Cotton Bowl - Big XII vs. At-Large
Fiesta Bowl - MWC vs. At-Large
Rose Bowl - Big Ten vs. Pac-12

BCS National Championship Game- Top 2 in BCS average of the 5 winners of games above.

All bowls have a conference anchor sponsor. These (except for the Rose) may be switched accordingly if needed, so if a conference At-Large is picked, it will not play a member of it’s same conference, unless decided to do so by the bowls/BCS selection committee.

After all 5 games are played, a new BCS poll of the 5 winners is voted on, and the top 2 selections meet for the BCS national championship game.

----------

BCS “Playoff” Model
---------------------------
These games could be seeded, keeping regional issues in mind for travel. The Rose Bowl could keep the Big Ten/Pac-12 matchup. All others could be seeded, or anchor conferences could work too, but not as well. Also, the 1st and second round games could rotate, with exception of the Rose, which would always be on Jan. 1. Also the Capital One Bowl should be renamed back to the old Tangerine Bowl (with Capital One as title sponsor) if it is to be included in the BCS. The same goes for the Chick-fil-A/Peach if it happens to be the one selected.

1st Rd. (Quarterfinals)

Capital One Bowl- Seeded
Cotton Bowl- Seeded
Fiesta Bowl- Seeded
Rose Bowl- Big Ten vs. Pac-12 or Seeded

2nd Rd. (Semifinals)

Orange Bowl - Winner of Capital One/Cotton
Sugar Bowl - Winner of Fiesta/Rose

Finals

BCS National Championship Game - Final 2 teams.
* All games could rotate for this site/Title game

----------------

The playoff scenario is probably not ever going to happen, and if it does, it wouldn’t work fairly more than likely due to the Rose Bowl probably not going with the Seeding method. In addition it seems that this method would make the games go at least 2 weeks past Jan 1, if not longer in some years, so it is probably not a feasible idea. The only way a playoff scenario would more than likely work, is if it was done like the lower divisions, before the New Year, and all the other bowl games were done away with. Which most people including myself, don’t want to see, for many reasons that we can all argue for/against.

*****FINAL Best Case****** Play all the traditional bowl games up to Jan. 31, then play all the BCS games on Jan 1. in a non-seeded, (+1) model, and hold a new BCS poll to determine the top 2 teams out of the 5 game winners to hold the BCS National Championship game one week later. *******

-------------------------------------------------

Now to argue the teams (fight amongst yourselves), but here are my general picks, which depending on what shuffling may occur could change all across the board.

ACC - Stays the same
SEC - Stays the same
Big XII - stays the same (or drops Baylor/adds Arkansas, etc. in some form)
Big East - Adds Memphis, ECU, UCF, Marshall
Big Ten - Adds Notre Dame or Mizzou, etc.
MWC - Adds UTEP, Fresno State, Boise State, Hawaii/BYU
Pac-12 - Adds 2 from Hawaii, BYU, Colorado

Final Note: Notre Dame should be forced to join a conference or be left out. Well, it’s all wishful thinking but am I really the only one tired of hearing all the conferences called off the last, and Notre Dame? Or all the conference commissioners and Notre Dame AD Kevin White met with the BCS officials today. I mean really, aren’t we all tired of pandering to the Irish?
