I really do not want to stand up for South Florida, but I'll do it this once. They are in a top 20 media market, good recruiting location, good travel designation, bowls in the area, pretty large athletic budget, and they already played in the C-USA.

Actually this is the reason that USF was chosen for the BE over UCF. USF was chosen over ECU, because of recruiting grounds in Florida. CUSA replaced USF with UCF to regain the recruiting grounds.

Actually...it was USF's Basketball and their facility that made USF a better pick to join the Big East back in Nov 2003 than UCF.

1) USF had been playing in a much higher quality basketball conf (CUSA) vs what UCF was in at that time (lowly ASUN, formerly the TAAC).

2) USF already had a "Big East" Quality on-campus Basketball Facility, with their 10,000 seat plus Sun Dome, which opened on their campus back in 1980.

UCF was in a small 4,500 seat "barn" (no need to have a large arena while being in lowly conferences like the TAAC/ASUN).

That made it easy for Big East to pick USF over UCF.

Of course...since those invites were given out in Nov 2003....UCF has spent over $350 Million on projects in their new "Athletic Village"...which of course includes:

New 45,300 seat on-campus stadium...expandable to 65,000

New 10,000 seat state-of-the-art Basketball Facility...finest on-campus arena in all of FLA/GA.

UCF (facility wise) is ready today...but they weren't ready back in Nov 2003 when the Big East made their selections.

Well he is no rocket man, which I take in North Carolina means the same thing as I am dumb as dirt.

One has to wonder, if ECU is willing to bend over, lube and spread for the Big East like they are, what are they paying those teams on their OOC schedule?

RE: ECU fans trying to organize effort to Big East...
Ecu could end up like Temple too, There for years and in the end kick out. At least Temple had a bb tradition to offer with full membership, ECU will be so far behind in other sports that it would definitely hurt if ever a full membership comes open. My question I'm let with is, Who in their right mind is going to pay to have ECU basketball in their league? I mean you have to offer something good in return for a downgrade in leagues. You must be good at basketball because it pays better than any other sports beside football.

Well lets see.......

1) They could vote AGANIST UCiF's membership.
2) They could vote FOR UCiF's membership.

The BE wanted a "Florida presence" and with USF they have a Florida presence. Done

RE: ECU fans trying to organize effort to Big East...
I have said it before, if ECU or Memphis leaves for the Big East then I demand that our new member be in the East and no farther south than NC or TN. The only teams that could even be considered with those restrictions would be Ohio, MTSU, Charlotte (If they get football started), and WKU. I do not want to see another Texas or Florida school like TCU, North Texas, FIU, or FAU. I like Troy and think that they should be considered to replace Memphis but not ECU.

The only other solution is to give Marshall a bigger slice of the 12 piece pie in order to help with travel costs to going to Texas or Louisiana several times a year in all sports.

No ones leaving any time soon. We all need to accept our fate and wait for things to blow up at the BCS level. I give the theives another five years tops before they start fighting. When that happens, schools like Duke, WF, the entire, BE, Northwestern, Baylor, Kansas State, Colorado, Washington State, Oregon State and Stanford and others will get their walking papers. Should be entertaining. The BSC wants fewer teams not more teams. Get used to it.

Ummm, vote against UCF? You seem to be forgetting that USF is an equal partner in the Big East Conference.

lets see...
decent (as in built with concrete and not an erector set) 43k stadium that is approved to be expanded to almost 50k, at half of the cost of your stadium.

i cant seem to remember the rest of the facilities.....:banghead:oh thats right, theyve BEEN there. for a while now.

Paycheck? BE football has very little revenue sharing right now - you earn it, you keep it; and it looks like ECU is willing to go for no TV money, the thing that is shared.

i dont know if i like the idea of ECU going to the BE. All I know is we would have to bend over and there would be no lube involved, not even a warning.
