Las Vegas bowl
LV going to take BYU for ever? I know they said they would like UNLV when there eligable. I could see by passing BYU if Ariz or Ariz St are in bowl game. what kinda crowd does Utah & AF bring. MWC needs BYU in Poinsetta to strenthen that game & help game get a local following.

Do you think the WAC & MWC should set up championship game in a bowl. and if so, which one. would the insight be intrested. Poinsetta has biggest ball park & Pac-7 is a little much. Even tough it was alot of travell for MWC, Liberty bowl seem to have some success with matchup.

The Las Vegas Bowl gets the first choice of MWC teams, after all BC$ options are done. Currently the BC$ option has never been in play since the Las Vegas Bowl has been the MWC #1 Bowl game. When Utah made it to the BC$ Bowl in 2004 the Liberty Bowl had the MWC #1 pick, they also did not allow the MWC to have an out clause for a BC$ Bowl. Utah/MWC had to pay the Liberty Bowl $2 million so they could play in the Fiesta Bowl and then the Liberty Bowl took top 10 ranked Boise St instead of the 2nd place MWC team. When the MWC was negotiating with the Liberty Bowl one of the sticking points was the Liberty Bowl did not want to give the MWC an out clause for a BC$ game. Plus the fact that every MWC team that played in the Liberty Bowl either lost money or barely broke even.

One can hardly blame the Las Vegas for wanting BYU each year:
2007- BYU vs UCLA, Attendance 40,712
2006- BYU vs Oregon, Attendance 44,615
2005- BYU vs California, Attendance 40,053
2004- Wyoming vs UCLA, Attendance 29,062 (I think was a new Las Vegas Bowl record at the time)
2003- New Mexico vs Oregon St, Attendance 25,437

As far as Utah they do ok traveling to Bowl games;
2007- vs Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl, Attendance 39,129
2006- vs Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl, Attendance 32,412
2005- vs Georgia Tech in the Emerald Bowl, Attendance 25,742
2004- vs Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl, Attendance 73,519
2003- vs Southern Mississippi in the Liberty Bowl, Attendance 55,989

Quick answer... Is NO WAY!!!

Non-Auto teams get way more respect by beating BC$ teams (even not very good ones) than they do for beating good non-Auto teams. Which one of Utah's Bowl wins sounds more impressive?
Utah's 10-6 win over USC in 2001
or
Utah's 17-0 win over Southern Mississippi in 2003

Another example of why it's not a good idea (using last year);
Say #19 BYU (10-2) plays #24 Boise St (10-2), there is for sure going to be a loser in this game and the chance of the loser not ending up ranked is better than average. With 2 games there is 2 chance for wins and the chance both teams move up the rankings.

There is know doubt it would be a good match-up, but it would not in the best interest for either conference. The non-Auto's need to get as many wins as they can over BC$ teams as possible and the conference champions should have a best shot at getting a win.
