ptmg Wrote:Harris enrolling at Patterson with Chris Chaney is a very, very good sign for us.

Chaney coached Shawne Williams, Dozier, Dorsey, Anderson, and Kareem Cooper.

Chaney also had Piere Niles, Hashim Bailey, and already signed for the '08 class, Matt Simpkins. I'm almost certain that even if Harris doesn't make it for '08, Cal will sign him in the fall for '09.

why not both?

I am by no means opposed to both just if I had a choice. I presume we won't know about Harris' eligibility until weeks or months from now.

correct...it would come down to the wire. There's a possibility that he would not even sign a letter if he were to be an '08 guy.

It probably won't happen, but don't be suprised if Harris signs with the Tigers before or right at the May deadline if he qualifies or not. It has happened before....Shawne Williams and Hashim Bailey both signed with the Tigers their senior years before going to prep school and resigning the following fall. I like the idea of it. Because that way if Harris for example doesn't sign and then gets eligible, let's say the middle of the summer, other schools can be all over him trying to get him in. But if he signs, regardless if he is eligible or not, his recruitment can't be reopened until the start of the Fall semester. I would like to have him signed so we can basically protect him in case he does qualify. It may not matter to Cal one way or another though. He may already have everything locked up between Coach Chaney, Harris and Harris' parents. Just my two cents.

I'm not sure I understand why he wouldn't sign an LOI. If he signed one and didn't qualify and went JUCO or Prep school, wouldn't the LOI simply become void? So why wouldn't he sign an LOI?

I did not mean for it to sound so cut and dry...like there was no way he would sign one. There's a possibility he could, especially if what TE suggested is true of our staff...they might want Harris on lock down. I'm just saying that it's totally within the realm of possibility that Harris works on his eligibility this summer at Patterson and finds out last minute that he IS eligible and decides to be on campus in the fall...all without ever signing a letter.

I got ya bham. Harris could very well not sign. Like I said, it wouldn't suprise me either way. Cal may just leave it up to Harris and his parents. If Cal wants him, I'm sure he isn't too concerned since Harris will be with Coach Chaney and he has been loyal to Cal. Really Coach Chaney is loyal to several college coaches that have placed kids there. If they let Coach know that they intend to sign the kid again and the kid seems solidly committed, I've heard he keeps the kid away from other coaches. Believe it or not, most college coaches respect that. I bet if Cal could have got the Morris twins to go to prep school at Patterson, we never would have lost them. I know we replaced them with good players, but those two kids can ball and are great compliments to one another on the court. They will be really good at Kansas.

I would like to see Harris sign a LOI, because Ole Miss and Mississippi State have been all over him too. While Harris would be at Patterson, if he didn't sign, there would be nothing stopping Andy Kennedy or Rick Stansbury from working his parents and former AAU and high school coaches to swing him. I just think Harris is worth locking up, but I trust Cal regardless.

Speaking of the Morris twins, I've been hearing that they may not qualify. Both are yet to get qualifying SAT scores, which is often dicey this late in the game. I think they're awaiting the scores from the most recent SAT test they took.

Harris = Chaney = Tigers, no worries. Now, on another note, I have watched Harris when he runs down the court it's in a similar fashion to Dennis Rodman.

These guys would be an impressive wave of talent no matter how you look at it. I like what Rose said " If you can ball, you can ball... no matter what your age is." These guys are ballers.

I hope the Morris twins qualify. There aren't any other teams to try to be like or compare ourselves to. Our goal is to be the best and have others measure themselves against us.

Monster performances at City of Palms versus Greg Monroe and Eloy Vargas elevated him from No. 97. Energetic rebounder who can board, score around the hoop, and run the floor like a deer. Mississippi St., Ole Miss, Florida, Tennessee, Texas or Memphis.

RE: Rashanti Harris to be eligible in 08?
I have watched every New Hope highlight on youtube...I am amazed that Harris is not a top 10 recruit. He plays..."with the passion of Tyler Hansborough"...haha, Hansborough is a douche, but seriously, Harris really does play hard and has a better offensive skills set than critics give him credit for. He looks like a sophomore Joey Dorsey with a better offensive game, and from what I have read, he comes ready to play every time he steps on the court. I can't wait to see him after he has another year of maturity under his belt (assuming he is going to Patterson).
