It could be nothing, but it could be a case of where there is smoke there is fire. I have no idea. There were rumors of the Memphis-UL football series on this message board a full six months before it was announced.

I just hope its true.

I wonder what the other conference that Memphis is talking to. The SEC would be logical geographically but I think there would be WAY to much resistance to Memphis. Maybe the Big 12? Obviously the Big East is Memphis' main target. Get into the Big East and Memphis won't have to worry about the SEC anymore.

I think the big question is, are these talks getting anywhere? Everyone in Memphis knows that R.C. Johnson has been on local radio talking about how he is always trying to get Memphis in a better conference and that FedEx helps out with moving the program forward. My opinion has always been I believe these talks are going down but are they getting anywhere with them? If FedEx can somehow strike a deal with the Big East, as far as sponsorship, then maybe Memphis gets into the Big East.

If FEDEX can get the damn Orange Bowl to get BE to anchor the bowl plus get the Liberty Bowl to guarantee a spot for the BE with payout close to Capital One bowl, then BE will probably listen.

You got that right. Hell, if they can pull that off the Big East schools and fans would mutiny if Mike Tranghese passed on Memphis.

The Big East can use more national exposure and FedEx and their sponsorship would offer that. The key is if FedEx can offer that package and a better bowl package. If they can offer that then I think the Big East would be stupid to pass up that offer.

Funny thing is, it took our challenging them in bb to make them take notice.

Performing better than them on the field in football - despite not having half the NFL 'talent' they possessed - didn't bother them in the least. Outperform them on the BCS criteria. Big deal.

But damn, swipe that image of being the best basketball league from them and they become obsessive - bordering on psychotic.
