uhmump, you called me a rabid right-winger because, I "guess", you'd never seen me defend social issues. There's a reason, I don't do drugs and I'm not gay. Doesn't mean I don't support the legalization of light drugs or civil unions. I am, however, against gay marriage. Why? We could start another topic on that.

I agree with the rest of your comment except that this is a CinC decision. That implies that the decision is at the discretion of whomever the President is... Beer is generally legal on bases, and thus porn should be as well. Its "use" is what is controlled. The decision that porn is "legal" is made by Congress/The Supreme Court... but it is either legal for all adults, or none... NOT legal for all but our troops.

I realize that not all bases are equal... and that is why you can't make a rule like this. A 22yr old Ensign in BOQ in San Diego or in Germany is different from a guy on guard duty at the Green Zone gate in Baghdad

I am sorry Hambone, but I do not feel that kev's statements backs up your claims. I do not believe that just because you remove porn (for the purpose of self gratificatiom) from the equation that most men in order to relieve "stress" are going to turn to attacking women just because they are there. If more women are being assaulted I believe it has to do with the armed services not being as diligent with their evaluations and letting the type of men who maybe should be in locked up.

I have called you a rabid right winger because I have never seen you break with the conservative line that is expressed on this board. From immigration to fiscal policy to general politics you seem that way. I like you have never done drugs amd am not gay. I believe that if tobacco is legel (not a smoker either) then marajuana should be as well. I have no problem with civil unions, but I do have a problem with "gay marriage" because of my upbringing as a Christian and my belief that a marriage can only exist between a man and a woman.

I do have a question for you. How do resolve your beliefs on Islam when you were in the military when one of your fellow soldiers may practice Islam?

No one talked about religion. A lot of things I espouse here I couldn't espouse while I was in uniform. Contrary to popular, Daily Kos belief, we aren't entitled to all of the right's spelled out in the Bill of Rights, we are beholden to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. ....and much of my bias against Islam has grown exponentially since 9/11. Yes, I knew all too well the dangers of radical Islam, but after 9/11 let's just say I woke the hell up. Some of you are saying we need Barack to restore this and that of America's image to the world, well, would you say we were respected when Bill Clinton was in office? If so, didn't prevent 9/11, did it?

There is nothing that's going to make me dismiss any biases against Islam but Muslims themselves. That's like white people telling pre-Emancipation Proclamation blacks that they need to view white people in a more positive light. Wasn't their job and and it's not my job to change the perception of the Muslims.

So if you met a Muslim who was spoke out against radical Islam and lived a peaceful life, it would have an impact on changing you rmind on non radical Muslims? (Talk about a circular question, but I think you will get my gist)
