Quote:There's plenty of good music going on at the Down Home and other venues three or four nights a week. Why should I shell out $35 to see a couple of pre-packaged Nashville Ham and Eggers when I can pay $12 to see Southern Culture or Rob Russell or Scott Miller or Unknown Henson? This "town" doesn't suck This "town" just has better things to do than buy tickets to every Music City Pre-fab that blows through town on their way to somewhere bigger

*** All absolutely accurate. The Down Home is one of the very best of things about the Tri-Cities. Throw in the occasional great things at the Acoustic Coffeehouse, the stupefyingly awesome Rhythym & Roots Reunion, Blue Plum, Music on the Square, Twilight Alive, the Carter Fold, the Paramount, and the other smaller music festivals around, and you have a cornucopia of top-notch musical events.

Please don't let him get started on the Down Home.

The man once said concerts in Memorial Center wouldn't be feasible because the community has been spoiled by the accustics of the Down Home.

He's worse on the Down Home than I am on the Eastland Mall.

Only I can make the Eastland Mall funny!

That said, I do believe the area is a much better music "town," and for that matter a better political town, than it is a sports town.

Agreed on all except the Rhythm and Roots has been a bunch of nothing the last couple of years. It doesn't hold a candle to Merlefest, or even Del McCoury's deal that he has, and what I'm saying is it easily should. And yes, the Down Home has good acts come through, I can see John Cowan, Blue Highway, LRB, or whoever else almost anytime. They play out almost year round.
Also, you get what you pay for in entertainment. I can pay 10 bucks to go see The Breakfast Club everytime they're in town and have a blast, that doesn't make them great musicians or vocalists. Again, all I'm saying is this was a chance for the region to show that they are deserving of A: more special events and B: larger events, both which benefit the area economically. I also contend that it could benefit the university, as with arena concerts comes an arena that needs to built to attract bigger touring acts, not just in country music either. And somewhere along those lines there's a corporate sponsor who would be willing to put up the cash to get that venue built, if the residents in the area would support the events they bring in. It's more than just this concert, that's just an example.
Oh, and for six more dollars you could have came to Nashville last week, go to a club called On The Rocks, and saw four bands in one night, including Theory of a Dead Man, who has the second hottest song on the Active Rock charts right now.
Besides, any town that supported HB Beverly as long as the Tri-Cities did has to be DYING for real music.

Please- Moderator- BAN ON DOWN HOME DISCUSSION!!!!

Even I took down the Eastland Mall avatar.

This is like yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theatre.

You've got to nip this in the bud or it spreads like kudzu.
