They'll wait until the last minute. Then somebody will initiate it. Who is the question...

As long as Tranghese is at the helm expansion will be delayed. But the more coaches, fans and ADs complain about only having 8 teams the more pressure their will be to expand. Especially since having only 8 teams is hurting the Big East's credibility.

The SEC had 9th team last year. The Texas Bowl is 8th in the Big 12's pecking order so you better hope you at least get a Sun Belt team and stop worrying about the Big East.

I see in another post that SEC is scheduling I-AA team to become bowl elgible so I was wrong to say SEC won't have bowl elgible #9 team. The Texas Bowl should also do okay with Houston U's 30,000 fans and UTEP brought 20,000. Tulsa U brought 15,000 to Liberty so should do well at Texas Bowl. The geography just makes this an impossible geographic bowl for BE. I have always said that and I also have always said that, with USF sitting there, that a BE bowl in Florida is much better for BE than continue to play in Texas Bowl.

The tighter geography and a new broadcast partner could make the Texas Bowl something like the Liberty:

I agree, both teams made out like bandits in this deal, just watch. I actually think that C-USA is sitting pretty right now with the Texas Bowl and the Liberty Bowl. The Liberty Bowl is one of the best non-BCS bowls out there along with bowls like the Gator, Sun and Cotton Bowl. I still think that C-USA is in much better shape then MWC, and that C-USA just needs one of the schools to rise to Top 25, preferably Top 20, status, and then have at least one other school receiving votes. If C-USA can do that then the MWC would have nothing on C-USA. The only advantage that the MWC has is that they have ranked teams. C-USA almost had that with UCF and another school that slips my mind, maybe Tulsa.

Thanks for you kind words! For me, I like the St. Pete Bowl very, very much and to be a part of this bowl plus Texas Bowl, well, that is more than we thought possible in this short time of three years for CUSA-12. Ye, I agree 100%. CUSA needs to get a couple teams in the Top 25. I think only one team would be considered some kind of fluke or else CUSA will be viewed in football like it is with Memphis in basketball--a one team wonder and 11 dwarfs.

Let's see how much protesting happens after another season. He may have the issue forced upon him.

C-USA is doing very well at this point, with all things considered, with the conference's bowl alignment steadily improving. C-USA's 6 bowls are against BE, SEC, Big 12, MWC, MAC and Sunbelt teams.

Only a matter ot time. The surprising thing is that it hasn't already been achieved. Every school in C-USA has been in the Top 25 at some point in history and there is no reason two or more schools cannot do it again. I admit that C-USA football has been weak of late, but that will not last.

It's to bad that UCF didn't take care of business against Mississippi State or C-USA would have had that Top 25 team last year.

RE: Big East Bowls for 08-09 season
People need to remember that all the bowl shuffling currently taking place for 2008 and 2009 is really just about leagues positioning themselves for the real moves that will take place in 2010.

I think the Big East will retain the BCS, Gator, and Meineke Care Care as our top three bowls at that time. Some tweaking will probably happen with the St. Petersburg and Papa John's games.

The Big East should invite the Big 12 #7 team which currently plays, unhappily, in the Independence Bowl to be our new opponent in St. Petersburg. CUSA can be sent elsewhere at that time.

Next, the SEC has to decide which bowl is more important, Independence or Papa John's. The higher payout, and the Big East, need to go to whichever contest is the answer to that question.

CUSA, after getting the boot from St. Petersburg, can then slide into the open spot in either the Papa John's or Independence that was created by the Big 12 accepting the Big East's invite.

As for our sixth spot, the International Bowl is fine, and the bashers do not know what they are blabbing about. The game is played in a world class city and a world class dome. I enjoyed it.

With regards to Notre Dame, they need to be limited to one appearance in four years in each of the Gator, Meineke, St. Pete, and Papa/Indie. They would probably decline a Toronto clause.

Doing all of this would give the Big East six bowls with five coming against BCS opponents. That is quite good and it is imperative to get the highest payout between Papa/Indie with the SEC.
