Will new assistant coach have anything to do with "mystery" recruit?
With all the openings for assistant coach, would it be possible that the new assistant coach might have something to do with the "mystery" recruit?

Possible assistant coaches who have already been mentioned:

Quote:• Memphis coach John Calipari has locked up another blue chipper - 6-8 Wesley Witherspoon of Lilburn, Ga., who is versatile enough to play four positions, including point guard. We hear Calipari has interest in Arizona assistant Josh Pastner - who has strong ties to Texas travel teams - for a staff vacancy there.

Quote:Calipari has been helped on the recruiting trail by assistant coach John Robic and director of student-athlete development Rod Strickland, who will likely be elevated into one of the open assistant positions.

The other will go to a well-established college recruiter. The frontrunner, according to insiders, seems to be Oregon assistant Kenny Payne, a former Louisville player who grew up in Laurel, Miss.

I don't know but I think Josh Pastner would be an excellant addition to Cals staff. The guy has major connections and is a tirelessly hard worker.

From what I understand and have heard from CB analysts, Pastner will open up recruiting options that Calipari has never had before... and looking back at our past classes, that is a scary thought.

It's not likely IMO. The reason being that a player that has already signed a LOI would likely not be let out of the LOI unless there was a head coaching change and he stipulated that upon signing. Doubtful that an asst. would garner the same escape clause.

I posted this on the other forum, but would there be room for both Paster & Payne on the staff? It sounds like both would be tremendous additions. I realize there are numerous staff positions, but only 3 are major ones. 2 of those will be occupied by Strickland & Robic, leaving only 1 available. Thoughts on this?

In restructuring his contract, Cal definitely hooked up his asst coaches too. Even if one of these two had a so-called "lesser" title than what they had at their former school, they'd probably be making a lot more moolah. And as my granny always said, "It's all about the Benjamins."
