The coaches couldn't talk to him, but his buddy Tyreke could. We know Tyreke has been doing a lot of talking to Ebanks and Witherspoon.

I never said that we were "recruiting" the surprise recruit. The player has expressed an interest in us , pending some additional developments. This is the reason that nobody knows. You can't actively discuss a player who has signed a LOI with another school or a player who hasn't signed an LOI with your school.

Honestly, I'm surprised that no one "on the board" has figured it out.

Now that would be a shocker, and incredibly awesome...

If we guess this, it may jeopardize the possible "landing" of the stud, right?
Suggest we table the discussion and I'll just have to stay anxious.

Ok, the main reason players want out of their LOI is because of a coaching change. So let's try to break this down.
This is the complete list of coaching changes.
LIST
But let's stick to the major players and not the smaller profile schools as those are the ones likely to get the caliber players that Cal would attract. So we'll start with California, Indiana, LSU, Marquette, Oklahoma St (a stretch), Oregon St, S. Carolina, and Stanford.
Of these the only schools with big men signed are Indiana (Tom Pritchard 3 star PF), LSU (J'mison Morgan 4 star C), Marquette (Chris Otule, 3 star C), Ok St (Demetrius Proby, 2 star JC C), and South Carolina (Darius Morrow, 3 star C).
Of all of these the only one that stands out is J'mison Morgan. Scout has him as the #6 center overall, he's from Texas, Brady got fired, and he was recruited by the likes of UCLA, Louisville, Bama, Kentucky, and Kansas.
PROFILE
So by deduction I think this is the best choice of players signed with a school whose coach is leaving.

Who says it has to be a head coach leaving that would cause the dominos to start falling?

It's just a starting point to figure it out. To me, it would be the most likely reason why a player would want out of the LOI. The next would probably be due to a player returning that would push the signee down the bench. This where a situation like UCONN comes in. But that has been discussed.

A couple other possibilities of guys that signed somewhere and have someone that is better also coming into the same team or someone coming back.
Terrence Jennings, committed to Louisville, they also signed Samuals and Clark is returning.
PROFILE
Henry Sims, committed to G'town, they also have Greg Monroe coming in.

I remember that we were recruiting Jennings hard, and then he committed to Louisville. He may be the mystery recruit.

Actually, that was my very first thought, too. We were after him hard and then he commits to Louisville.
The reality of being back-up to S. Samuels may have finally hit him and with the rumors of Ricky leaving.............
I likey!!

RE: Kenny Kadji-Florida 6-10 big man
Tug gives us this hint:

Quote:For all the talk that consumes us about big men, please remember that our offense doesn't need a monster big man, We need a big man with above average low-post scoring ability; aggressive rebounding skills; able to get up and down the floor; and passing skills out of the paint.

It is possible that our surprise recruit may be able to do all of these things

Perhaps that will help narrow down the list of possible candidates.

I don't think Kadji has any qualification issues although we were on his short list at one time.

Jennings would be a mature guy in his first season. He must be close to 20.

Originally a member of the Class of 2006. Native of California. Enrolled at Charis Prep as a post grad then transferred to Mount Zion and made his way into the Class of 2008. Big kid who can block shots and be a defensive presence. Finishes strong inside and he's got a body the college strength coaches would love to get their hands on.
