Hopefully we don"t lose him to the MLB draft
Q&A / JORDAN CRAFT, Kennesaw Mountain: 'I realized baseball was in my future, and basketball wasn't'

Kennesaw Mountain's Jordan Craft probably reacted like any other elementary school kid when his teacher asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. Craft wanted to play professional baseball.
The Mustangs' senior outfielder doesn't look so average now. He leads the team in runs scored, batting average and RBIs and is one of the top prospects in always loaded Cobb County. Craft recently sat down with staff writer Glenn LaFollette to discuss his future.
Q: The [major league] draft is June 5. How much are you thinking about it right now?
A: I deal with it, but I really don't try to think about it too much. You have to let it play out. You don't really find anything out until two or three weeks down the road, until the draft gets started. You've just got to let it play out.
Q: When did you know you weren't just an average player?
A: I didn't really know I could do some of these things until maybe my sophomore year. I met the right people and got around the right people. Different coaches helped me out.
Q: Have you always played baseball or were you a multiple-sport athlete?
A: I played basketball until eighth grade, and I started playing baseball when I was 4. Baseball was always something I liked. I remember my eighth-grade year, my dad got mad at me because I quit basketball, because that's what he played in college. I just realized baseball was in my future, and basketball wasn't.
Q: You may end up playing college ball at Kennesaw State. What made you choose that school?
A: It was definitely because I was going to get playing time as a freshman. I mean, all the SEC and ACC schools' offers were nice, but they never really clarified if I was going to get to play as a freshman. At Kennesaw, I can come in right away and compete for a starting job.
Q: If you don't get drafted high enough, will you be upset about ending up in school instead?
A: I won't be sad about going to school. Everybody wants to get a good education. But at the same time, your goal is to get drafted, sign those papers and get on with your future. That's what I've been living for the past 10 years. You know when you're little, you fill out those questionnaires for your teachers, asking what do you want to do when you grow up. I always put I wanted to be a professional baseball player. And that's what you live for.

RE: Hopefully we don"t lose him to the MLB draft
We lost Culberson to the draft this past year. He was marketed really well and had a ton of scouts attention which landed him in the second round. Sansing has said its very possible Craft could get drafted and if it happens then good luck to the kid. If we keep him he'll see the field and have a chance to help us to a conference title next season.
