Why wouldn't Notre Dame play in Cincinnati? There's a huge alumni base there and they have strong pipelines to the Catholic football leagues.

There's been quite a bit of discussion generated around the Orange Nation about Notre Dame's failed attempt to play a series with Rutgers in football and the deal it swung with UConn. The Irish say they have another Big East school lined up, and speculation is it might be Syracuse, whose three-year deal with the Domers ends after this season. I understand ND did contact Syracuse a month ago about extending the series. The Orange said sure, though details were not discussed. If the Irish do ask to play Syracuse in the Meadowlands as opposed to games at the Carrier Dome, I think the school will say, absolutely. Remember, the Orange has spent some energy marketing itself in the Big Apple as "New York's College Team." And even though the actual site might be in Joisey, it's still in the shadow of Gotham.

ND will never come to the dome. It's not big enough to hold their fans.

It was big enough as recently as 2004. Their fan base has not gotten anybigger since then, if anything ND's fan base has gotten smaller.

As far as recruiting goes, it's my same theory as OSU (who backed out of playing at PBS in 2012). They don't feel they need to play football in Cincy to successfully recruit there. They've done well so far. And if they lose to the Bearcats, they lose recruiting ground. Thus, they are not willing to assume the risk.

As far as alumni base, you're correct.

Thanks for the post Orange Eagles. Interesting...

Just curious, anyone know when that new Jets stadium is being completed? That would place the game on the NY side if it was there.

I agree. But do you think many ND fans would admit it?

That deal fell through. The Jets and Giants are building a stadium at the Meadowlands together and are sharing it. There will be no stadium in Manhattan.

If Syracuse is going to play this game I would hope they would play a few of the games in Buffalo and play the rest in Meadowlands. No games played at South Bend and none played at Carrier Dome. SU should try grow it influence in that city more and Ralph Wilson a good stadium and it close for SU.

Notre Dame would never do that deal...I'm thinking an 8 game deal

4 in South Bend
2 in Meadowlands (share gate)
2 in Syracuse

RE: Who gave the 'euphoric verbal'?
One rumor I heard for a UofL-ND series was that Jurich offered a 3-game series, one in South Bend, one in Louisville, and a "neutral" in Indianapolis. But ND turned it down; I guess the game in Lousiville was the sticking point as they wouldn't be able to fill up half of our stadium for their road game.

Nuck Fotre Dame.
