IMO, San Diego St problem for years and year now all comes down to their OLine and DLine. They normally have very good skilled players and will have a good OL-man or DL-man. Their problem is quality all across the the line and depth (back-ups), as in your line is only as good as your weakest lineman. San Diego St does not have the that many 1st or 2nd team All-MWC OL, I had to go back to 2004 before I found Mike Kracalik who made 2nd Team All-MWC. During the same 4 year time frame;
Utah had 3- 1st Team, 4- 2nd Team OL
BYU had 3- 1st Team, 4- 2nd Team OL
Colorado St had 1- 1st Team, 3- 2nd Team OL
Wyoming had 2- 1st Team, 1- 2nd Team OL
UNLV had 0- 1st Team, 1- 2nd Team OL
I didn't New Mexico, who always seems to get more All-MWC selections than any other school. It's inflated IMO, because New Mexico has a very good PR staff who give complete bio's on their players that up for MWC honors, the MWC schools don't go near to the extent New Mexico does. 2007 is a good example; New Mexico had 6 of the 13 1st Team All-MWC selections on the O side (2 more on D), were BYU had 4 on O (2 more on D)...
Now compare Stats;
BYU's O ranked 1st in the MWC and 25th Nationally
New Mexico's O ranked 6th in the MWC and 76th Nationally
BYU Passing O ranked 1st in the MWC and 14th Nationally
New Mexico Passing O ranked 3rd in the MWC and 52nd Nationally
BYU rushing O ranked 5th in the MWC and 67th Nationally
New Mexico O ranked 7th in the MWC and 78th Nationally
BYU 523 pass attempts and 20 sacks allowed (26.15 attempt per sack)
New Mexico 462 pass attempts and 25 sacks allowed (18.48 attempt per sack)
BYU finished 1st in the MWC (8-0 record)
New Mexico finished tied for 3rd (5-3 record)
Ok here is another example, you tell me which 2 RB should be 1st Team and which 2 RB 2nd Team? These were the actual stats of the 2-1st Team and 2-2nd Team RB's.
