Forward Majok is a Husky
Quote:Forward Majok Commits to UConn
By MIKE ANTHONY | COURANT STAFF WRITER

A day after Hasheem Thabeet announced he would return for his junior season instead of making himself eligible for the NBA Draft, UConn received more good news today.
Ater Majok, a 6-foot-10 forward who was the center of their recruiting efforts, made an oral commitment to attend UConn. Majok, who visited campus last week, is expected to sign a national letter of intent in the next few days.
Majok, from Sudan via Australia, joins guards Kemba Walker ( New York), Scottie Haralson (Jackson, Miss.), Nate Miles (Toledo) and center Charles Okwandu as part of the 2008-09 recruiting class. With Thabeet returning, the Huskies have only four scholarships to award, meaning if all five recruits become eligible UConn would have to see another current player transfer in order to fit them all on the team.
He is the best big man left. The kid looks like a smooth player and he only has been playing basketball like 4 or 5 years. There is no doubt Calhoun will turn him into a NBA player in a few years. UCONN has become the official Africa connection with recruits like Thabeet, Okafor, Majok and Okwandu (former Arizona recruit).
Oh yeah, those Kentucky fans really really wanted him and they are pissed.
BE gonna be sick next year. Bring it on.

RE: Forward Majok is a Husky
Thank god UC is bringing in 4 more big time big men. The league was tough enough last year! As a bonus, it's also nice to see Kentucky get burned! They're probably accusing coach Calhoun of paying the player since he couldn't have possibly picked UConn over UK without something shady happening! LOL!

Congrats UConn But isn't it about time you guys got back to making serious tournament runs?
I had UConn as a FF darkhorse this season, and they destroyed my West bracket on day one.

I had UConn winning their region if not for the injury/loss to San Diego killing my West bracket and costing me $150 ! I really thought that UConn would have beaten them, especially with their frontcourt. I have UConn as my FF darkhorse as well. Hopefully UC will develop a chemistry early next year so we can get back to the NCAA Tournament and hopefully pull off some surprises and upsets.

Yeah, the Price situation was a bummer, but I maintain that it was no excuse for losing to USD.

Agreed. USD is the kind of team UCONN would beat 19 out 20 times but that one time they did it.
Price was one player UCONN could not afford to lose. It was a HUGE drop off when he is off the court at the PG position. He is also a dynamic scorer who can take over the team. I hope he is ready next year cause it is not easy coming back from ACL. However, we do have Kemba Walker coming in and he is definitely UCONN's future PG and he did fine guarding Brandon Jennings who is supposedly #1. BTW, Jennings almost went to UCONN but he ended up at Arizona. He is probably 1 and done while Walker might be at UCONN for 3 or 4 years so it all worked out for the best.

Man those UK fans are really living in some kind of 3rd dimension. They think their sh*t don't stink but reality is still reality. Another of their recruit decided to pick Hawaii over UK. Now that's funny.

Urgghhh.. UK fans, we are UCONN. We are not some poor school with no tradition. We also beat UK the last time we played. I hope UCONN signs on to a 4 year series with UK so we can line up against them. Also, our coach is still better than your coach.

Prediction, Yancy Gates will be BIG EAST Rookie of the Year. Majok will be a force for UConn but he will be sharing time with the other UConn big men.

Welcome to our and Cincinnati world. We have to live with those clowns and you just got a little taste of it.
BTW, some of them want to go after Derrick Caracter since Pitino said no-(for now) to his return to UofL.

UCONN fans who saw the game said good things about Yancy. Both Yancy and Ater looked very good.

Yeah, Gates was a beast in that game and pretty much punked IMO Tyler Zeller who is going to UNC.
I love Majok game and he is a major get for UConn. Much rather have him in the BIG EAST then playing for the Blue Bellies.

Yep Majok was a huge get. He got smooth inside/outside game. He is also an extremely nice, well spoken and smart kid in the mold of Okafor. UCONN fans gonna love this kid.

If Jennngs had decided on UCONN, Kemba Walker would be a Bearcat. Oh well, UC has a pretty good point guard coming in instead.

Yeah Jennings was all set on UCONN. He was wearing an UCONN jersey and his old HS coach is Marcus William's dad from LA. I saw him play. He is indeed talented but a little bit of showoff and he also likes to shoot too much.
Kemba Walker is much better fit for UCONN. His dream school is UCONN. He is in he mold of Taliek Brown except he got a much better offensive game. Remember Taliek Brown? That kid was tough. We kept our NYC pipeline open and I am glad he is a Husky.
Glad Cincy got a PG too. Yancy will make Cincy much better next year.

Majok is a player. At one time, I hoped he would go to WVU. But I saw early that he'd rather be anywhere than Morgantown. The only difference from the outback is there are a few more hills, trees, and people.
