UC's black team wins 23-14 over white
Defense got a good number of turnovers, just like last season. Offense put up some yards, but had a number of interceptions. UC's defensive backfield may be the best in the country this year, with All American Mike Mickens back, Deangelo Smith (other starting CB) and now Brandon Underwood (transfer from Ohio State) adding to the depth. Underwood had an INT return for a TD to finish the game tonight.

Grutza actually should have had two more: one that Mickens was all over, but mistimed, and the other that went for a TD off the defender's hands.

I would like to see the day when Nippert is nearly sold out for the spring game, but over 10k is the most ever and is another step in the right direction. The strides UC football has made in the last couple of years has been great to see. Mike Thomas, Brian Kelly, and everyone at the UC athletic department have done an outstanding job of improving UC football and getting the city to take notice.

10k is great! I hope Cincy can build on that and get 30k for the fall.

There were many games - not too long ago - when there were less than 5,000 in the stands for regular season games (even though more were reported). So to see 10,000 for a Spring game just shows how far UC has come.

Just curiuos but can Nippert be expanded and to how much? I know there aren't any plans now but just curiuos if things really take off.

Thanks in advance.

~45K (reasonable), ~50K (stretching it)

I'm not that worried about the limitations, though. UC always has PBS at its disposal for big-time OOC (Okla, VT) and conference (UL, WVU) games. But, I'm only interested in that if 60000 of the 66000 are Bearcat fans.

The offensive shortcomings could loom large in the fall, if they don't get them worked out.

I can understand Grutza turning the ball over a good bit though. I've never been enamoured with him.

Neither are the coaches. If they have to go with him they will, but from comments made by Kelly, they would prefer one of the younger guys step it up and take over. Hopefully Mauk gets an extra year and we won't have to worry about who the QB will be. If not, Jones has a lot of time to get his mechanics in order until fall camp.
