RE: NTR --- If the Grizzlies were smart....
DM3Tiger Wrote:Cal should never go back to the NBA imo. He is a college coach. He might be the best recruiter in the nation, and what good does that do him in the NBA? He is a teacher and recruiter, neither of which benefit him in the LEAGUE. He's said it himself: "If you want to get fired, go coach in the NBA". Now why would he want to do that again?
Maybe to prove to himself he can be a good coach in the NBA. If we all know Cal, we should admit that he can't stand failing at something.

This paves the way for Memphis letting Ivaroni go after only 1 season.
Step 1: Buy out Calipari's contract at Memphis [the last thing I want to happen]. Sign him a to a 5 year $25 million dollar deal with a $3 million signing bonus.
Step 2: Depending on the lottery, trade up to select Derrick Rose.
Step 3: Depending on where CDR falls, select CDR in the first round.
Step 4: Trade Kyle Lowry (and cash or future 2nd [with restrictions] if needed) for the rights to Joey Dorsey/DJ White.
Step 5: Trade Mike Miller, Mike Conley, Hakim Warrick, future 1st($12.9 combined) for Lamarcus Aldridge, Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw ($12.6 combined)
Step 6: Do not resign Navarro, Jacobson, or either of the Browns.
Step 7: Use the approximate 6.5 million (estimating incoming rookie salaries with this figure --- has been taken into account) generated through releases and trades to sign a free agent. Options include: Josh Smith ® [would have to shell out big bucks], JR Smith ®, Carl Landry ®. We'll say JR Smith since CDR's size likely will need to be adjusted for the rigors of the NBA game. Aldridge has already filled a huge void inside.
Estimated opening day roster:
C- LaMarcus Aldridge
PF - Rudy Gay
SF - Travis Outlaw
SG - JR Smith
PG - Derrick Rose
Bench: Blake, CDR, Milicic, Cardinal, Collins, Dorsey/DJ White, Crittenton
Maybe trade a future 2nd round pick for Jamont Gordon to fill the bench with another guard. He's projected for late 2nd round.
What this does for the Grizzlies:
1. Multiplies attendance figures from last year.
2. Creates buzz around the city for something other than the University of Memphis basketball team.
3. Creates a team that fits the style of John Calipari. Cardinal and Milicic are exceptions, but their contracts are too big to move at this point.
4. Creates a very decent bench... more depth.
5. May create an opportunity that would nearly force the local ownership group to buy out Heisley.
6. Returns you back to the playoffs.
7. Young group will likely yield a NBA championship in the next 5-7 years. Hard to keep them together though. I say this because one Cardinal's and Milicic deals expire it will allow the organization to make some quality moves in the FA market. Or yield enough money to keep these guys together as they progress.
What??? No room for Derrick Chew?
