Is the ASUN REALLY a baseball league?
Thats what all the other league members try to tell us. According to the latest RPI standings, the ASUN is 18th. Meanwhile the Southern is 8th.

I think the A-Sun used to be a good baseball league but not so much anymore. And just like everything else the Socon continues to improve in every sport while the A-Sun progressively gets worse.

this is insane logic. You're basing it on one year, plus your team is the one dragging us down the most.

This will be the first season we're not a multi-bid league to the NCAA's in a long time. Sometimes we're a 3-bid league. Gulf Coast would be knocking on the at-large door if they were eligible.

Actually, over the last six years the So Con has generally been ranked higher in RPI than has the A-Sun in baseball.

You know what this feels like? It feels like the guy that shot 2/15 for his basketball team is asking the rest of the players why they lost the game. You can't be the biggest problem we have and demand solutions. Start at the source. We all need to improve, but not as much as ETSU.

I'm not making posts that show how bad our basketball RPI is. Because Mercer's been one of the main problems in that department.

As for right now, someone has to be #18 and it's the A-Sun. So we have to try to get better.

I think the frustration is that we all know the A-Sun is terrible in basketball, but A-Sun fans say "But wait, it is really good in baseball..." Now we see that is a lie.

The seasons not even over yet. The A-Sun hasn't had a bad baseball year in a long while still. (Multiple bids to the NCAA's is always good) So maybe our NCAA team this year will win a game, or even stun a regional -- you never know. So let's wait til the year is complete for judgment.

What if it does?

How does that change the fact there were so many bad teams in the conference this year and that the new schools, though Florida-based, were able to come in and do well?

Furthermore, why is Stetson sucking so much this year?

Pitt, I wouldn't say there's a lot of 'bad' teams. I'd say there's a lot of 'average' teams.

Mercer & Stetson each lost their best pitcher because they left early for professional baseball.

That still doesn't account for Stetson's huge drop-off. Only a Stetson fan could answer that. I think they're just human.

I was told before the season that Gulf Coast would come in and be a force. I didn't believe it. Now I do!

Gulf Coast is going to be a very legitimate college athletic program in 10 years or so. I'm talking about a Marshall/USF rise.

You're still making excuses for this league.

RE: Is the ASUN REALLY a baseball league?
a little off topic, but a little update on ETSU's best player in a while, Caleb Moore. Went to the Minor Leagues in the Twins organization, got to High A as a catcher before being reassigned to Rookie League Elizabethton as a pitcher. Was released by the Twins and signed by the Rangers. Was released shortly after and had Tommy John surgery. Realistically, his career is over.

I really liked him and tried to follow his career, thinking he might get into the major leagues. Guess not.

Pitt, there's no need for excuses. We've had one average year after a long string of great years. Plus like I've said before, the year isn't over yet. So it would be crazy to think that this ONE year will be what shapes EVERY year to come.

Consistently posting RPIs lower than the Southern Conference is great?

What would putting two teams in the College World Series be? Orgasmic delight of heart attack producing proportions?

Once again Pitt, the A-Sun does not care about the SoCon. Only ETSU fans do. It's a waste of time. And yes two teams from the ASUN in the college world series would be on the level of a heart attack. That wouldn't excite you??

I wouldn't watch the So Con either if I knew that by doing so I could no longer call my conference great, or even passable.

RE: Is the ASUN REALLY a baseball league?
Four of the five teams currently on top of the Atlantic Sun standings are ineligible to make the postseason.

The exception is Lipscomb, which historically has been a strong baseball program.

I'm sick of the excuse making. I'm sick of having to hear that with a lone victory against Lipscomb last weekend ETSU is "staying alive for the post-season" when they have a .295 overall winning percentage.

In other words, the Bucs, even in this horrible conference, are three back in the loss column for a playoff berth (with six to play) but only two games ahead of the pace set forth by the 1962 Mets.

There's that pessimism that you're known for showing through, Pitt. I'll bet three of those four teams could win the league over at Steve Spurrier Field (is that still the little league field over by Cardinal Park?).

RE: Is the ASUN REALLY a baseball league?
There are actually two Spurrier Fields- one is the football field by Cardinal Park- and the other is is the Little League Field you mention, but it is at Kiwanis Park near his boyhood home on Wilson (I think that's it).

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THAT NEIGHBORHOOD?
