.....possibly being named soon as LSU's next men's basketball coach.

LSU already hired ND's baseball coaching staff. Notre Dame South?

I find it interesting that the Irish have trouble keeping a coach. You'd think a storied program like Notre Dame would be able to afford, or retain, a good coach. But it doesn't look like it.

Maybe it's the Charlie Weis effect. ND won't improve in basketball until they hit rock bottom - just like they're doing in football.

False alarm, apparently...
It is being reported that LSU hired Stanford's coach, Trent Johnson.

Bit,

Didn't ND just go 25-8 and end up second in the Big East?

How is that hitting rock bottom?

That would be funny if Montgomery just took the Cal job and the Stanford job becomes open now!

What I'd like to know is why former LSU coach John Brady, two years removed from the Final Four, can't get a better job than Arkansas State.

Lots of "behavior" rumors down here in BR and he has a very abrasive personality.

Notre Dame has trouble keeping coaches because they are not really in a conference. Whether the Irish want to admit it or not, not having a true conference identity hurts them in many ways. Now if they would "get off of the pot" and either join the BE or the big 10......................

CBS is ranking ND a top 5 team next year in basketball.

I wonder how the first black coach at LSU is going to fare? I think it will be easier in Baton Rouge than it would be elsewhere in the south. But I'm sure there will be some friction. There's too many @ssholes floating about to prevent it.

It's a good hire for LSU, though. He's a smart coach, gets along well with his players, and is an excellent recruiter. I think he'll make the Bayou Tigers a consistent NCAA tourney visitor if he sticks around.

RE: Lots of talk here in Baton Rouge about Mike Brey...
Not a problem, guys. I get that all of the time. It comes with the territory. I'm used to it. I am over 50 and have been an Irish fan all of my life. Trust me, it has happened to me before.

I have a co-worker who is remarkably silent every time ND wins but can be counted on every time to ask me "What happened to Notre Dame?" when the Irish lose a game in any sport.

You have to have a fairly thick skin to be an ND fan. You are always in "enemy" territory no matter where you are (except South Bend).

For instance, I grew up a Pirates, Pens and Steelers fan like all my friends but would "yank chains" and argue with my friends who were likewise fans of those same teams but who were Pitt or PSU fans.

We would agree on all the pro sports but part company when it came to college football and basketball.

This is a pretty good board. I know I am going to get "yanked" when I post about ND, but I do it anyway. :)

Hell, the Irish need at least one fan on here to help balance things out.
