Crean to Indiana
Fox Sports Radio is reporting Tom Crean to Indiana. Anyone heard this? If true, this is a big hit to Marquette.

That's fine. I don't really like either one of them. He is a good coach and a competitor though.

Just heard it on ESPN. It is official. The announcement will be tomorrow April 2nd. The Big -10 steals another BE coach. 03-melodramatic

That'd be a good hire. Does he have any connectionsto MU? What about Travis Ford?

That's a pretty good question, I don't know. The OK State job is open now as well.

Does Marquette have enough big money donors to afford Miller's buyout. I know that Oklahoma St. does. T. Boone Pickens has that in pocket change.

Well, MU is paying Crean $1.7 million per year. It can probably afford the buyout. Miller's name has been tossed around. Tony Bennett is popular. Mike Anderson's name was tossed out by Katz. Other names include Kevin O'Neil, Doc Rivers and the other usual suspects such as the Wright State coach. Even Rick Majerus has been mentioned.

I think there is significant concern about Buzz Williams leaving. He has done a great job recruiting for MU in the past year.

I was discussing Brad Brownell (Wright State) as a good replacement up there myself. I think he is a great coach, and as a Dayton fan it will be too bad that they won't get him to coach there before moving on to a big time school.

That's a good question matt. I think what helps Marquette is that they don't have to pay the rest of Crean's contract since he walked away. So whatever money they have left to pay the rest of Crean's contract can be focused towards the new coach.

RE: Crean to Indiana
I think Tony Bennett would be a great hire for Marquette if they can get him. He is a Wisconsin native and had an incredible career playing for his father at UWGB in the late '80s and early '90s. Sean Miller or Doc Rivers would be excellent hires there as well. I would not be surprised if the Golden Eagles end up tabbing someone who has not even been mentioned yet, though, which is pretty much what just happened with this Tom Crean to Indiana move.
