I'll be at West Virginia in April for an Engineering Orientation for my son. Any recommendations on good places to eat and stay.

RE: West Virginia University
I think the Waterfront Place is the nicest place to stay in Morgantown but a bit pricey. It is downtown and close to the main campus. The Hampton Inn is nice too and on the other campus close to the stadium. If you want to save a buck and drive into campus you might look at the Super Eight or Holiday Inn Express on the edge of town. Both are fairly new.

Morgantown is not a restaurateurs dream but if you want a taste of the town you might try the Boston Beanery downtown. Pizzaria Italia makes a good pizza pie and is close to the stadium for a quick lunch. The West Virginia Brewery downtown has decent beer and food. Grab a dozen pepperoni rolls from Ray's bakery on the way out of town.

I'd recommend hopping on the PRT and taking a round trip. It will give you a great layout of the town. It's 50 cents or a dollar or something like that.

--What's strange about WVU is there are two main campuses in Morgantown. The downtown campus is the orginal one, but as the University got bigger there wasn't enough room for new buildings etc so they built the Evansdale campus. Evandsdale is where the Engineering building is located.

LaRue is right on...the Waterfron Hotel and the Hotel Morgan are probably the two nicest places to stay in town. The Hotel Morgan is more historic, the Waterfront is brand new so it depends on what you prefer. However there are lot of other hotels around town where you can stay for a more reasonable rate.

As for eating, if you want something that you can't find in every town the Boston Beanery is a great choice. Its an Irish pub/eatery that was founded in Morgantown. There are two Beanery's in town, one is in Evansdale and the other is Downtown.

I always preferred Crockett's Lodge which is also in Evansdale. Again, its kinda of a home town place with good food and lots of WVU stuff on the walls etc.

The Beanery is a must if you're in Morgantown, no doubt.
