NCAA Exit @ Eight
Now that the BE is knocked out of the tournament can someone tell me who much the BE made this year on the tournament credits. What is the dollar breakdown to make the tournament, and then to pass through the tournament to the championship. What are the credits worth at each stage.:bcs: :bcs: :bcs:

RE: NCAA Exit @ Eight
Who cares if The BEast is out? The officiating in this tourney is atrocious. The fact that no BEasts are left in the tourney underscores that fact, and anyone who watched the games, and has an ounce of intelligence and basketball knowledge knows many teams got screwed.

Louisville got hamstrung at the start by the inconsistent calls that always seemed to go against them at just the right time for Carolina. It's obvious that the officials are biased.

I say no more home games in an NCAA Tournament game. At least we can take the home bias out of it. 01-lauramac2

I also saw why UCLA has such a great record against Xavier (and everyone else they've played in the tourney). Love is allowed to shove other players off the court, and no foul is called. If he blocks a shot, no foul is called. No fouls are called for moving screens - unless it's so obvious that they can't ignore it. But if his shot is blocked, that's when a foul is called.

Hell, anyone can be great with officiating like that. 03-banghead

RE: NCAA Exit @ Eight
This tourney was certainly a disappointment for the Big East. I would have expected a little more from at least two from the group of Georgetown/Pitt/UConn. Georgetown however never showed its dominance during the season and Pitt/UConn were inconsistent so I cannot be totally surprised.

I never had confidence that any team from the Big East would make the Final Four. The 4 number 1's clearly are dominant teams. I think that the success in the first round and of our lower seeds making the Sweet 16 showed that the Big East was a deep conference with lots of good teams but no dominant team. 4 of our 5 top teams certainly were the cream of conference but had tough tourneys.

You get 1 credit for each round of the tourney - except when you reach the final four (there are no additional credits earned when you reach the final four). Therefore, the maximum a team can earn is five credits.

Here is the breakdown of each Big East Team with number of credits earned:

Pitt - 2
WVu - 3
VU - 3
MU - 2
UL - 4
UConn - 2
ND - 2
GTown - 2

Total Credits - 19

These credits are then summed for the 6 previous years. See link:
http://www1.ncaa.org/finance/bkb_dist.html

This '19' would replace the '12' credits earned in 2002. It would bring the total credits for 2008 to 94. At ~ $200k per credit, that makes it $18,800,000.

HOLY CRAP - almost 17 million in the bank. Bring in Memphis and the Liberty Bowl for a nine & seventeen team HYBRID CASH COW.

GO BIG EAST

Thanks for the info.

RE: NCAA Exit @ Eight
I've also tallied the values for the other BCS conferences (and reposting the BE data):

Credits earned this year:
BE - 19
ACC - 10
Big 10 - 9
Big 12 - 16
Pac 10 - 14
SEC - 10

Taking this years credits earned and subtracting the credits from 2002 and subsequently adding the credits from this year:

New values for revenue distribution (total credits from 2003 to 2008):
BE - 94
ACC - 77
Big 12 - 79
Big 10 - 67
Pac 10 - 65
SEC - 76

The amount per unit in 2007 was $195,154. I expect this value to go up a little bit so for purposes of calculation, I will assume a round value of $200k per unit (which will be revised once the NCAA published this again)

Here is the estimated revenue then:
BE - 18,800,000
ACC - 15,400,000
Big 12 - 15,800,000
Big 10 - 13,400,000
Pac 10 - 13,000,000
SEC - 15,200,000
