Davidson - wow
Putting Wisconsin to shame right in Big Ten country. :badger:
That Curry is an amazing player. What a tourney he and Davidson are putting together.

Davidson is a team. Those guys really know how to share and distribute the ball. In addition, they are very fast.

Gregg Doyel's disgusting obsession over Curry will grow to even greater height-and rightfully so.

Memphis, Davidson and Xavier in elite 8 from non-BCS conferences. All three dominated those conferences after playing tough non-conference schedules. Those conferences will get credits for reaching the elite 8 and perhaps final four. This decade has seen the CUSA, A-10, MVC, WCC, MAC, CAA, Horizon, and Southern get teams deep into the elite 8 or better. The fact is their are great basketball outside the Big East and ACC. Of the 61 teams in the Big East, ACC, SEC, PAC Ten and Big Ten......just 3 were able to reach elite 8.

And here I was expecting all 61 to make the Elite 8.

Good points.
There are very good basketball players and coaches in various conferences all over the country.
While the Big East had the strongest overall conference this year...many of the other big conferences (the other 5 BCS Football Conferences) weren't much better than some of the other teams/conferences.
With 300 Million plus people in the country...and many International kids playing NCAA Hoops...the Big East can't possible sign ALL the great players.
Welcome to March MADNESS!!!

I'd love to see Davidson win it all. That would be something if the smallest school in Division 1 won it all.

RE: Davidson - wow
This has been a phenomenal showing for the "mid-majors" in that these weren't last second Cinderella wins - they were instances of David taking Goliath behind the woodshed for a beatdown.
Davidson is the obvious example but I remember watching Siena and Vanderbilt play and Vandy looked like they were the mid-major trying to get an upset....sneaking back within 10 before watching Siena go on a run.
If you look at the 1970 Top 25 (or whichever year it was Davidson was last ranked in the final poll), interestingly enough you'll find Western Kentucky ranked as well.
The key for a Davidson or a Southern Conference, is to not be a one-hit wonder. If they can be successful and retain their coaches and build upon the success of 1-2 teams, the climate will change. The Valley is coming close to doing that. Until then though, it's just flashes in the pan.

I think Curry held the ball to long at the end of the game. I know he wanted the shot, but they should have taken it sooner in my opinion.

Curry hit a big 3 in the final minute to put Davidson in position to win, but down the stretch of the game I thought he hurt his own team's chances by taking some wild shots from everywhere on the court when he should have been more patient.
Nevertheless, the kid had an incredible tourney and led Davidson on an amazing run.
I wonder how many hearts stopped in Kansas when that last shot went up?

I think Wofford is smaller.

Davidson paniced on last shot, if 3 not open you take 2 & hope for foul, then settle for OT.

The thing about Davidson is that they have made the NCAA Tournament several times in the past decade, as it is, although this is their first really deep run during the span. I think people tend to overlook that because their previous appearances were first round losses.
Winthrop is another example of this. I had a feeling they would be trouble for Notre Dame last year because they had already been in the NCAA Tournament several times in the preceding set of seasons. Some teams will get a lot of appearances and make runs sporadically.
Gonzaga has now become a highly respected program that constantly makes the NCAA Tournament. Sometimes they make deep runs and other times they lose in the first round, or maybe the second round, but they have succeeded in capturing the benefit of the doubt.
Other teams falling into this category include Xavier, Memphis, probably George Mason over the next few years, and Butler. Western Kentucky has a nice history so they are capable of positioning themselves to stay at that level too. The key is to play well every season.
