MWC Basketball...Looking ahead to 2008-09
First a quick look at the season in review...

In a projected down the MWC men’s basketball sent 5 teams to post season tournaments;
2 to the NCAA; BYU and UNLV
2 to the NIT; New Mexico and San Diego St
1 to the brand new CBI

BYU started the year minus 3 starters from the 2006-07 season of them being MWC POY Keena Young. Beside the 3 starters they also lost other Sr players that contributed meaningful playing time in games last year.

UNLV starter the year minus 4 starters from the 2006-07 season and also Joel Anthony who was not a regular starter, but was the MWC DPOY.

On top of that Air Force, Colorado St, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming all starter the 2007-08 season with a new Head Coach. It now looks as if TCU will be starting the 2008-09 season with a new Head Coach, there was a lot talk of wanting it done last year.

RE: MWC Basketball...Looking ahead to 2008-09
The key for TCU will be how the current players react to the new coaches system and work ethic. The player I am most concerned about losing is Henry Salter because he was TCUs best shooter this year, but to me he seems like the kind of guy who may not mesh well with what Coach Christian wants to do at TCU. If Salter leaves then it will hurt because the frogs will lose a scoring threat, but having guys who do not want to be in the program is much worse.

I will be interested to see if Christian can keep all the current commits, and who he will bring in to fill any other remaining scholarships. He has a track record of using JUCOs at Kent State, so I assume he will bring in at least one this year to try to suppliment the roster with guys who knows will work in his system.

I learned long ago to not to try to guess the heart of players... But chances are that not all of TCU players may not buy into Coach Christian system and agree that TCU will be better off without those type of players. Let them find a system they will be happier playing in...

I heard a player today at the TCU baseball game talking about the first practice with Coach Christian. Intense and very tough were the type of words I heard him using, but personally I think that is what most of these kids need and if they buy into it then I think some can vastly improve their game.

I also heard a rumor today that Keion Mitchem and Jason Ebie may leave the frogs, not sure how reliable the source was. But like you said, if they don't want to play in this system then let them go.

I like Ebie and believe he has a pretty big up side at TCU, so I hope he says. But it's nice to see Coach Christian was not all talk, hopefully TCU's plays will step up and work hard to get better...
