Villanova is in as a 12 seed. That means there will be 8 Big East teams in the NCAA Tournament!

I expect them to beat them. And Pittsburgh is paired with the winner of Michigan State/Temple, the Panthers should beat both of them and Oral Roberts.

I expect Connecticut to roll to the Sweet 16 and I think UCLA is in big trouble facing the Huskies.

RE: Selection Show Thread
Every Big East team got equal or better than I thought it would.

GT - Got what I expected
UL - I was expecting a 4 for losing 2 straight at the end but got a 3
Uconn - I was expecting a 5 and got a 4
Pitt - I was expecting a 5 and got a 4
WVU - I was expecting in the 8/9 game and got a 7
Marquette - Got what I expected
ND - Got what I expected
Nova - I expected to not be in tourney but got in.

Overall a pretty good day for the BE.

Lunardi got all the teams (not the correct seeds though) - still pretty darn impressive!

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology (Lunardi's bracket at 5:45)

So that means:
Big East (8)
Big 12 (6)
Pac-10 (6)
SEC (6)
ACC (4)
Big Ten (4)
Atlantic 10 (3)
West Coast (3)
Sun Belt (2)
Mountain West (2)

A couple of matchups, I think Louisville will get to, at least, the Elite Eight. I think they're a horrible matchup for Tennessee and will knock them off if they get to the Sweet 16. I think Connecticut will at least get to the Elite Eight. As long as West Virginia beats Arizona I think they will be a tough matchup for Duke in the second round and I expect a Pitt/Memphis Sweet 16 matchup and that is one of the handful of teams I didn't want Memphis to run into relatively early in the tournament. Pitt would grind that game to a half-court game and make Memphis hit outside shots and FTs. Georgetown is a monster right now and Villanova, I think, will take down Clemson, but Clemson is tough.

RE: Selection Show Thread
I like the chances for most BEast teams to make the sweet 16. Here's my outlook on it...

UConn has a very good chance to make it to the regional final against UCLA.
Ditto for Georgetown against Wisconsin.
Ditto for Marquette against Texas.
Ditto for UofL against Tennessee.
Ditto for Notre Dame against UNC.
Ditto for Pitt against Memphis.
Ditto for WVU.

Duke will fold against WVU, and the Mountaineers face Xavier in the regional final.

Villanova will probably lose in the first or second round.

Of course, I'll probably turn out to be totally off base. But wouldn't 7 BEasts in the Sweet 16 be awesome? Having 8 would be even better, but I don't think Villanova can pull it off. They got a tough draw.

Keep an eye on Xavier. Someone better take them down early, preferably Georgia. Because if Xavier gets out of there they are going to wreak some serious havoc in that region. I think Xavier is bad matchup for West Virginia, Arizona and Duke.

He has some connections, because at 4:35 he changed his "Last Four IN" and added Oregon, Villanova and Arizona at the last second and then, suddenly, dropped St. Joseph's into the Last Four In section. I also remember a few years ago when he went on a national radio station a few hours before the Selection Show and cryptically said that a national power would be upset when the brackets were announced. Low and behold Air Force got the last NCAA Tournament bid ahead of Cincinnati.

RE: Selection Show Thread
Great day for the league in basketball. Now, we need to do something with and go win some games. I'm VERY glad Nova got in over Arizona St. I compared their profiles on here earlier in the week, showing how Nova was clearly a pick. Glad the committee used the common sense index on that one and ignored the ESPN clowns claiming a V Tech or ASU deserved the last bid.

I also think the Big East was seeded quite well. I know the committee picks and seeds by teams, not leagues, but its clear what they thought collectively of certain leagues when you look at the seeding. We were seeded equal to positive compared to projections.

Check out the Big 10 on the other hand. Their top team at 29-4 won the regular season and tournament and only got a 3 seed. Their conference tournament 3 seed gets an NCAA 8 seed, and their bubble team, OSU, doesn't make it in.

The situation I think the committee should point to when accused of picking leagues instead of teams is the Hokies. The #4 team from the #1 RPI conference doesn't make it. It shows that just having most of your teams be Top 100 clubs doesn't matter if most are in the 51-100 range rather than the 1-50 range.

I'd like to see Georgia win against Xavier. That would save everyone a lot of problems.

I don't think WVU will beat Xavier. Not unless Alexander sets another career scoring high.

I agree. There are three teams, I think, will cause a TON of damage in their brackets if someone doesn't put them down earlier, Xaiver, Pitt and Louisville. If someone doesn't get to them, and let them get into a groove there are going to be some serious issues. Xavier is good. Xavier is DAMN good. They absolutely mauled Kansas State and Indiana and almost beat Tennessee. They have also beaten some other good team. They are very good when they don't freeze. If Xavier doesn't play scared they will butcher Georgia in the first round. If they play scared, like they did in their A-10 games Georgia could send them home.

I'm shocked Nova made it. I had them out, cause I didn't think they deserved it. Still, very good for the Wildcats, and even better for the Big East to get 8 Teams.

Now it's time to kick some ass!

I think Villanova got credit for being screwed in the Georgetown game a month or so ago. Villanova has a slew of quality wins. If Illinois had beaten Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game then Villanova wouldn't have made it.

I can only hope Pitt and Georgetown get Friday/Sunday games, especially Pitt after having to play four games.
