My awesome church, Hope Presbyterian, is asking for help:

Join our community in showing compassion. Be part of a community Memorial Service on Wed. March 12, being held at Mississippi Blvd. Christian Church. Dr. Craig Strickland (Hope's Senior pastor) will be part of the service which begins at 7pm. People of faith will join together in prayer for these families recently affected by violence as well as for our city.

Donations are needed to help pay for funeral and burial expenses of the 4 adults and 2 children killed in the attack on Lester Street. Any remaining funds will go toward the medical costs of the 3 young children severely wounded in the attack. The hope is that there will be enough money raised to also help pay for expected physical and emotional rehabilitation treatment for the surviving children. Anything after that would go toward future education costs. The money will be put into a trust fund that will be governed according to strict guidelines established and administrated by MBCC and First Baptist Broad Avenue. Checks can be made to Hope Church with Lester Street Victims Fund being noted in the memo line item. Hope will forward on all of these donations directly to the fund. Very cool. I hope a serious push is made to Gov. Bredesen to put the $50K in reward money the state offered into a trust for the 3 surviving children. I believe the other $30K came from Crimestoppers, so I'd be more apt to say that money should go back in their coffers, but it would be a great gesture of any number of locally based Fortune 500 companies to "replace" that $30K.
