Official Kennesaw 2008-2009 Basketball Thread
Figured I would start a thread about next season. We always get this topic mixed up in other threads. Now we can combine it into one. Here is the projected roster for next year...obviously it could change with any transfers, but from what is being reported so far...

(New Players in Bold)

PG: McConnell, Dixon
SG: Woods, Chambers, Pollock
SF: Cummings, Marine
PF: Mitchell, JMac
C: Green, Whipple, Allison
RS: Heramb

Also want to add, that I was really impressed with Whipple's improvement this year. I thought he started to become a true basketball player instead of just an athlete. Will be fun to see him mixing it up with a few more minutes next year.

Edited to add - I bet that all 5 of our PF/C's get significant time next year as JMac and Polo will probably slide to the SF position often when we go big. For now I have them listed as PF/C as with Tanner's transfer we will need the extra help in the paint. 2010 that won't be a problem as we will be adding Heramb, and Allison should be ready for more minutes at that point. The future is bright!

Until our recruiting class is a done deal I'll hold off on making a prediction. I like this thread though. It'll be fun to see how many different lineups we come up with as the season approaches..lol. This should also help us keep some basketball discussion up when the season is over. I

n the meantime lets support our baseball team! Took 2 outta three against Stetson which was huge, got blasted by Wake Forest today but I think we'll rebound well against Penn State tomorrow morning...just a hunch.

Yeah, I am definitely not making any predictions about our team next year until the roster is reported, but I wanted to start something so we can update it as the 08-09 year gets closer.

PS: Wake Forest has one 'r' :)

Anyone have any marketing ideas that stuck out to them this year or that we could experiment for next year? I'll make sure they get in the right hands.

Thanks ahead of time!

I'll start another thread on that...we can keep that one going as well. That way we don't jumble up the content on this one...

As far as next year. I am glad we found Kelvin. I hope our new signees are good. Strong wishes for Cornett but I'm not overly optomistic. Overall... I'm celebrating the last year of probation which has absolutely thrown a wrench into our engine that we were fine-tuning in D-II. There has to be a better way to help schools that are elligible and ready to compete at the highest collegiate level to get there in one piece instead of being knocked around for four years. Oh well. Almost done. I've made it this far.

I think the point is that the NCAA doesn't want to help teams make the jump - in fact the opposite argument can be made. It is pretty clear they are looking to hinder teams making the jump. Cornett is going to need to step up and have a strong offseason to make his mark on this program. If he is not motivated he is going to be going down a tough road. Hopefully he has been rehabbing his knee with diligence. Kelvim was a nice late find, and is going to be a good one.

I'd like to be optimistic and realistic at the same time. The roster projection as it stands now on the top of this thread is only about 35% accurate.

I feel that Mattone, Daugherty, Croft will all be gone due to their production and numbers this season. This is a scary time because there are so many unknowns added to the major losses. The coaches have been out scouring the recruiting trail. It will be interesting to see what they comeback with.

GFWO - I agree with your statements, but until the players/coaches make those kind of decisions we are going to have to go with what we have. Are Daugherty and Mattone satisfied with with being a complete bench player for the rest of their time here? Doubtful, and chances are that they will both transfer, but we are only speculating at this point. I think Croft was a walk-on so I think he knew what he was getting into (or he should have known atleast). But I do think you are right that we will almost definitely see some kind of turnover at the end of this year. It happens at every program - players get disatisfied with their role and move on. Some make good decisions, some make poor. I think we have seen both at Kennesaw in the past couple of years.

Not all the turnover problems have been bad for the program either in the past few years.

Based on everything I've read about Green, I wouldn't be surprised if he can step in right away and contribute. He also sounds like he has a tremendous upside. Right now, there are not any true big men in the ASUN, but lots of 6-8 guys who play out-of-position. He'll be difficult to guard, no doubt about it. With Cumming, they should be a nice tandem to build around.

And you guys are definitely correct about players coming and going. We've definitely had our fair share of turnover, and in many instances, they couldn't or wouldn't accect their role on the team. The nice thing too, even though I sometimes hate to see players leave, is that we were able to upgrade in many instances.

The one thing I love about college basketball is how one player can completely change a team. If you guys or anybody for that matter land the right player, things could turn around in a hurry.

Both Green and Cummings are those type of players. Jay Mitchell is also a mid major plus big man averaged a double double for one of the best JUCO's in the country before signing with Texas Tech. We have a big class coming in next year if we can dot all the i's and cross all the t's.

Hopefully that will be the case. Sometimes it is not as easy as it sounds :)

PG- McConnell, Dixon, Chambers
SG-Woods, (Possibly Butler), JD
SF-Cummings, JMac
PF-Mitchell, Whipple
C-Green, Allison

This seems to be our roster as of today. This is not a depth chart, just a list of our players. I really wish we could talk Tanner into staying but JMac and Cummings can both play the 4 so we should be ok.

Any new confirmations on the team? I would love to see a writeup on our ksuowls.com on the rest of the recruiting class. The only person that has been officially announced is Heramb. Even though we have confirmations from some inside sources of people who post, I would love to see it for my own two eyes on the web site. Cummings, Green, Dixon, Chambers, Woods have not been officially announced as having signed.

i'm with you on that. though i'm 99.9 percent sure they're signed, i'd still like to see it on the site so i can feel 100 percent sure. I dont get why they havent done an article on the site yet. Signing day has been over for a while now.

Signing day is not one day, it is a period of time. One is in the spring and one is in the fall. The spring period is not over until May.

That is correct GFWO, but according to the people on these boards, these kids have already signed, so why doesn't the SID announce the current signings on the web site? It might produce some momentum if we are still recruiting a kid...convince him to sign with all the young talent we have coming in.
