More Good Stuff in the press (2/18)
Quote:The Weekly Watch:
By Fran Fraschilla

1. Most college basketball junkies are aware of some of the outstanding players in college basketball who playing are in the shadows of high-major leagues. In fact, guys like Mike Green (Butler), Stephen Curry (Davidson), Jason Thompson (Rider), Patty Mills (Saint Mary's) and Josh Young (Drake) could become household names to the average fan come NCAA Tournament time. All of their teams are capable of making some noise in the tournament.
Here are some other players who are not yet well-known but could make names for themselves in the tournament, nevertheless:
Josh Akognon, Cal-Fullerton
Tony Lee, Robert Morris
Demetric Bennett, South Alabama
Ryan Wittman, Cornell
Al Fisher, Kent State
Josh Alexander, Stephen F. Austin
George Hill, IUPUI
Robert Jarvis, Oral Roberts
AP Writers Poll (#33)
Quote:Others Receiving Votes
Pittsburgh 59, Brigham Young 43, Clemson 39, Gonzaga 18, Arizona 8, Mississippi State 7, Rhode Island 6, Kent State 3, Stephen F. Austin 2, Western Kentucky 1, Cornell 1.
From Mid-Majority.com:
Quote:The MAC is escaping the CAA's problem for now, by offering a clear front-runner (Kent State, 10-2, four straight wins, 43 RPI) and a bunch of teams below that could present tough March matchups and a potential two-bid scenario should the Flashes fall. At the time being, Kent is taking care of any and all league business, most recently showing 7-5 Ohio its proper place in a 72-62 win. KSU is two games clear in the East and has that gigantic BracketBuster at Saint Mary's on Saturday.

Any other mentions out there today? The more pub, the better.

So far this year as soon as we get votes in the polls we lose. Let's keep it from happening this time by beating Buffalo and St. Mary's this week. It's interesting how as an Engineer I think logically but as a sport's fan I believe in hexes. Strange isn't it.

Two years ago Kent received some votes one week and promptly lost their next game, also.

I couldn't agree more with what was said above. Let's take care of business and stay focused on Buffalo tomorrow. They always seem to play us tough. Once tomorrow night's game is over, we can then look ahead to St. Mary's, but not until then. So let's saddle up, stay focused, and lasso up some Bulls!

Go Flashes!!!

RE: More Good Stuff in the press (2/18)
If I recall correctly, the buffalo game began our terrible slump. So hopefully we'll just do like Ohio U and show them the REAL KENT STATE. I liked the bit about showing Ohio U their proper place. I was at the first game and we played terrible. When we play to our potential we are clearly the best in the mac this year. I'm hoping for a good win at Buffalo this year and then something good at St. Marys.

St. Marys is also undefeated this year at home and I was on their CBS sportsline message board today just poking around and their fans were writing us off already. They had very bad information on us so I had to correct them. they were saying we had 4 players that might score double digits off the bench and didn't mention any of our good wins or tough losses. They seemed to ignore a 20 pt George Mason spanking, our Illinois State win and the mudhole we stomped into St. Louis. Also the fact that we have 6 or 7 different players that could go for double digits on any given night. They were calling for a 15 pt win. I think St. Mary fans are in for a pretty rude Awakening. Time to get some attention on the west coast!

Go Flashes, beat Buffalo!
