And props to The Flash, too

Quote:Play with intensity, but keep your cool. I think that OU is going to try to frustrate someone like Sing to get in his head because of what happened last game.

Anyone else watching on Fox notice the color guy observing that of all the Flashes, opposing coaches worry about Sing the most because of his complete game? OU never laid a hand on him. CS was as cool as a cat to the end today.

If he could get his personal life together, Sing is going to be Antonio Gates Part Two. Of course, if he can't, it won't matter.

Kent's guards absolutely killed us today. Al Fisher was looking like a Harlem Globetrotter with the ball out there.

I hope Singletary gets the wake up call.

All I can say is that it is a great day to be a Golden Flash. Great game and atmosphere. 2 NFL pro bowlers at half time. Kudos to OU. You have a very talented team. Will give most teams fits. Do not want to play you again.

Anyone still think I'm an idiot for suggesting 6 weeks ago that Fisher and Mincy play together in the backcourt? Mincy bringing the ball up court and initiating the offense sure looks like it takes a world of pressure off of AF. No?

Kent 76 Wrote:Burden, I agree. No real weak spots, except maybe the free throw shooting, at least until late in the game when they started cashing in on them. Kent wasn't spectacular, but played a solid basketball game from start to finish. Singletary looked especially good. He has the potential to be an Antonio Gates caliber player before he's through, maybe even better. If Al Fisher improves from his first to second year like many of Kent's recent JUCO's (e.g. Edwin, Youngblood, Smith) he, too, could be incredible.

good post. Al Fisher is light years ahead of Edwin and Youngblood at this point in his career. He is the first juco transfer that we live and die by in his first year at Kent

I always think youre an idiot, but it has nothing to do with you knowledge of Kent State Basketball!

Thanks for confirming that Flashgrad '03. I figured that I could count on you. My wife still thinks I'm still as idiot and that I still know nothing about KSU basketball too...

RE: Ohio U Thread
Great game, fun atmosphere. To echo what others wrote, I really liked that KSU came out focused from the start and didn't have any of those 5-10 minute stretches where the intensity drops. Every time OU made a run, they countered. It seemed like everyone who played stepped up with a clutch play at some point. And Singletary was especially impressive -- he's turning into a guy who can create his own shot almost any time he wants. I've only been following this team since the midpoint of last season, and Mike Scott is already one of my favorite players of all time.

Props to the OU gang for being loud (although the DUI chant was low class). My wife is an OU grad and was representing down in our section between the OU bench. Bubba can shoot, but he ought to keep his mouth shut -- he came back to the bench a number of times bitching about bullsh*t calls.

And Flash Freak is spot on about Mincy -- I really like having him in the backcourt with Fisher now.

RE: Ohio U Thread
I don't have a whole lot to add about the game. But I do have one thing to say.

If I was going to be voting for play of the game. I would definitely go with Q's behind the back assist to Mike Scott under the basket. It was so well timed and awesome to see Scott slam one down. He doesn't do it often.

I liked how the only time Ohio got within 2 of us we battled our way back out to a 13 point lead before Bubba took some more half-court 3's. Overall it was a well played game. Peaceful, unlike Akron. We won't be hearing complaints about the class of KSU this time and I like that.

(chuckling) I said similar things about Bubba to the Toledo fans. Dude's a talker. He jaws. He's not gonna stop now, as much as I wish he would.

As far as the DUI thing goes, I think that's a matter of perspective. I wouldn't begrudge anyone for doing it to us (and didn't when everyone and their mothers were showering the football team with taunts), but I can see where it annoys people. The middle fingers thrown at us illustrated that well (not to stir the pot, just saying people let us know what they thought).

I have a question: Are the video boards in the line of sight for foul shooters? Because that flashing "Make Noise!" thing sure looks like it can be distracting.

they distract me pretty well. Not as distracting as the RAFTERS when you're up high in the MACC though. We need some video boards down below like Ohio U has, so everybody can see the score.

I was thinking the same thing. I know it took me a sec to adjust to it and it was not in my Peripheral.
But I also agree about upstairs. There are a couple of rows of seats up there that makes it hard to see the score. You can look at everything else on the board, but not the bloody score.

RE: Ohio U Thread
Oldfan,

Jim said he didn't like the potential matchups for Rashad against Ohio and couldn't find a way to work him in.... He talked to Rashad before the game to prepare him so he wouldn't be surprised by a DNPCD.

Most of Rashad's minutes lately have come at the 4, and that was a bad matchup for him against Tillman and Williams in the post.

Rashad is trying. His defense is still a major liability. I saw some signs that it was getting better, then he had a horrible game at Central. Just let players go right by him.

It's a shame because he has so much talent. I honestly believe he has the talent to be an All-MAC player if he just found some confidence. Most of his defensive problems may be a lack of confidence. It's almost as if he is so unsure of himself, he ends up being a step slow.

I talked to Jim after the Ohio game, and he said there are matchups against Buffalo that will work for Rashad, so he'll probably play on Tuesday.

Sure reads like Ike is on the team from his quotes in this article. Maybe it's as simple as Ike playing behind two pretty productive guys in Scott and Q this year. I still believe he can shine next year.

I agree FF. He has the ability, he has shown he can play well against big guys like Leon Williams and Wood. I think he, Sully and Parks will have to improve, but will all be at least serviceable next year. Our strength will be at the guard position, but i dont think our bigs will be a complete liabilty. It would be nice to add another big guy as well.
