It may sound small, but it's not. You couldn't get away with saying at West Virginia they had won the football National Championship in 1988, for instance (though I'm sure they did win it in rifle).

What's the difference? It shows lazy fact checking and makes the woman appear clueless.

The thing is, I actually like the woman. I actually feel guilty that I didn't greet her and politely correct her privately after one of those meetings so she wouldn't repeat her mistake.
