Football recruiting
Well, it appears that more football recruits are now coming from Oklahoma, than Texas....Is this a good move??? Only two recruits from North Texas, we had been averaging close to ten a year and seemed to be doing just fine, getting some good talent. Is Oklahoma football on the same level as Texas football.....based on recruiting services, not even close. The top 2 or 3 players in each state maybe about the same but we aren't going to get any of those.....how about the 50th best in each state....not even close. We always have to find some diamonds in the rough but where is the best area to mine for those diamonds. I think Texas wins, hands down!!! The positive about this is, OU and even OSU to some extent skim the top five players in the state and really aren't what you would call Oklahoma's team except in name only. Tulsa on the other hand should advertise they are Oklahoma's team because of the large number of Oklahoma players. Sure should make TU better known throughout the state and maybe get a little more press....no, sorry, I was daydreaming a little there. I hope it works but I would like to see us recruiting a little more, especially in some of the upper echelon schools in North Texas!!!

RE: Football recruiting
Who knows when it comes to recruiting and ranking. Prized recruits fail while unheralded recruits become stars. Look at Trae Johnson last year, a two-star recruit who (I think) is one of the best receivers playing the game as a freshman. I do think that Tulsa got a lot more of the cream from Oklahoma than they would have in the past. Whether that's whipping cream or sour cream will have to wait a couple of years.

RE: Football recruiting
There are 150,000+ football players in the UIL in Texas versus about 12,000 in our state. Their pool is considerably bigger to pick from and is by far the largest pool of fb players of any state. California isn't even close. Texas, like Oklahoma, is a state where their football is taken very seriously and the kids that play it expect to be highly disciplined and will work their butts off. Thus it is a recruiters paradise. What TG is doing is very smart IMHO. We are going hard after the top 25-30 best players in OK and cherry picking areas where our coaches have strong ties, especially Texas. We are signing more Oklahoma players than OU/OSU because their fans and administration see them as "nationally competitive" even if the majority of their recruits are no better than ours. But remember, they have the BCS advantage - kids think its a bigger deal whether its better fb or not. I think its a good thing that we can take the Oklahoma players away because it legitimises and focuses the TU program in places in the state that normally would ignore us. We need to be known as Tulsa's University and the home to Oklahoma's players. What I want to see next is us getting the true local (Tulsa area) Blue Chippers - the ones that often go to Tennessee or Nebraska or Notre Dame. That's the next step.
