RE: Curtis Johnson
No record of him on Rivals or Scout.

Here's the story:

Coral Gables wide receiver Curtis Johnson signed with the University of Memphis on Wednesday morning at a ceremony at his coach Joe Montoya's office.

Johnson, the son of former University of Miami assistant coach Curtis Johnson Sr., caught 21 passes for 458 yards and six touchdowns this season to lead Coral Gables to a 9-2 season and a regional playoff appearance.

Johnson said he chose Memphis over Tulane and Louisiana-Lafayette.

''I felt Memphis was the best opportunity for me to have a career that could lead to the NFL,'' Johnson said. ``I took a couple of other visits, but they couldn't compare with the coaches and the way I felt when I went there.''

Johnson has academically qualified and said he will play wide receiver and likely be a punt and kickoff returner for the Tigers.

Memphis went 7-6 last season and finished tied for second in Conference USA's East Division before losing to FAU in the New Orleans Bowl.

RE: Curtis Johnson
sounds like a kid with decent ability --from south florida (where everyone said we HAD to recruit)-- who is a coaches son (good football IQ) ---we can't go head to head with USC, Texas and Notre Dame for every recruit...some of you look for the bad in every situation... anyone know who we beat out for Carlos Singleton? I think the coaching staff has demonstrated it can evaluate recievers---wait until they suit up before calling someone a dud

Don't know his measurables, but if he's smallish in the 5-10/6-0 range, I can see him being converted to DB.

With him being a Miami kid (Jacques is also a Miami native if I'm not mistaken), maybe they're trying to establish a pipeline to Coral Gables.

I was speculating on just that/favor(establishing a pipeline) which is why I see your point or maybe we already got something/debt(transfer).

I do remember Mortiger writing something to that effect about a WR converted to DB. I took it for granted that maybe he was referring to McKayhan.

I was also thinking that this kid is our backup plan if Damaris Johnson didn't sign. Everyone needs a plan B.

PS:Yet, he could be plan B for McKayhan.

Nope, I did see it posted on Maxprep. I imagine they'll wait until after the recruiting is done.
