..tax & spend..."
Does this qualify me as a genuine, card holding, big government tax and spend liberal?

I'm happy for DeKalb that the school referendum passed.
THAT's an easy one, I won't be paying for it.....

I'm happy the Lombard Park district tax to build a new swimming pool passed.

THAT tax will cost me $35 or more annually.

I will now need to wear my speedos to the grand opening of the new pool in 2009.

If I qualify for and fit the smear language description opening this thread, I'm proud of it.

In your case, you and your citizenry voted on the tax increases etc - since you had a direct vote in it I believe it is hard to complain, even if you are against the levies. If people didn't want a swimming pool, they should of gone out in force, mobilized the voters, and voted no.

As a seperate tax and spend issue, that's the hard part about unvoted upon earmarks. Everybody loves them when they provide services to them, but people are not so enthusiastic about earmarks when the go to other people.

People are human, what can ya say?

It doesn't make you a bleeding heart liberal to know the school system in DeKalb was brutal. Sometimes even a Kedzman like conservative can see that some money needs to be spent for the important things like education. This is one of those times I would think.

I favored the pool referendum passing but I'm thinking too much like a liberal.

My kids are grown and live outside the district. I used the old pool rarely prefering to pay out of district fees using a less crowded and closer public pool I preferred in a neighboring town.

I should have voted no for my selfish motivations of not wishing to raise my real estate taxes to benefit so few citizens.

I thought more about the common good of the community and how many families rely on the pool for summer entertainment events, a youth swim team and recreation. SHAME ON ME ! Isnt my vote supposed to be all about what's good for me?

Personally my wife and I will not get $35.00 a year return on our investment for our YES votes.
My bleeding heart overode my personal and narrow motivations to vote NO!

I make for a very lame flip flopping conservative.

Sometimes you have to spend money to make money. A pool or other recreational things enhance your town. When you go to sell and someone likes the new pool, it is a plus to your house. Being a fiscal conservative, I have voted for many tax referendems. I just hate when they ask for money and have not explained the reasons. Our fire district wanted money for a new firehouse. They asked for $10 million but had not budget or reasoning behind it. It was shot down 2 times before they realized the tax payers want details. My biggest spending problem is the federal government. They get so much money that you can not easily track the use.

I am happy that the school thing passed in DeKalb. Based on what I had heard in the past about their school system, I was planning on moving out to Sycamore when the time was ready for me to have kids. My house that I just bought has everything I need to raise a family and hopefully when the time is right, the schools will be up to par and I won't be forced to move.
