Eastern Indies (including adopted teams) 1980s
College Football Warehouse Rankings 1980-89

1. Miami
2. Penn State
6. Notre Dame
17. Pitt
27. West Virginia
33. Syracuse
35. Boston College

7 programs in the top 35

61. Rutgers
80. Louisville
84. Cincinnati

And when one considers how much the latter three have grown into the 21st century - the possibilities are amazing.

Cheers,
Neil

Add Virginia Tech and Memphis, what a 12 conference that would have been.

Quite staggering and every bit the equal of the SEC on the gridiron and today's Big East on the hardwood.

You could still have had a strong all sports conference back then even if Pitt, Syracuse and BC didn't want to leave the Big East:

Florida State
Miami
Penn State
West Virginia
Virginia Tech
Louisville
Memphis
South Carolina
Rutgers
Temple
Cincinnati
East Carolina

Not only that but having that conference would mean the Lambert Trophy would essentially have some real meaning and it could be presented in NYC!

Neil, that's a nice bit of info you dug up there.

Of course I must insert comments where appropriate to that list. It's a moral imperative... 07-coffee3

2. Penn State (welcome friend)
6. Notre Dame (sh!t or get off the pot. The BEast needs no dead weight or freeloaders.)
... stuff irrelevant to my comments went here 07-coffee3
35. Boston College (it's against my better judgement, but ok. welcome back)
OK. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, I can go back to ignoring expansion topics like I usually do.

It is quite odd ND has not played Louisville or Cinci in football because there is some basketball history between those schools which predates the 16 school BE.

Could be because in bball UL and UC are more storied programs than ND, but in fball, historically ... not so much. Only makes ND look better in bball, but they could've felt it would drag their rep down in fball. My how things have changed.

Villanova should move up and end all this split talk. They'd be making BCS cheddahman!

Just filling a hole in the schedule. If they are interested in joining the Big East they better get a move on quickly. It would take years for them to get to that level.
