RE: Belmont Game Thread
I was at the game last night and was thoroughly impressed with the owls showing, up until about 12 mins left in the 2nd half. I don't usually rant, but I have to get something off my chest...
This may be a bold statement I don't care, but if the Owls had lost that game last night, blowing the 18 point lead, every single ounce of the blame would have been on Tony Ingle. Let me preface what I'm about the say with the stat that the owls shot roughly around 54% from the field on the entire night (53% 1st half, 56% 2nd). When you are making buckets left and right, lighting up the floor shooting over 50% from the field, you don't slow down. As all could see (especially if you were at the game) Ronnell had a superstar-caliber night accounting for 30 points. I don't know if I saw him miss consecutive shots all night. When you have a guy go for 30, and especially when your entire team shoots over 50% from the field, and you could have easily lost, that should be a red flag. And in my opinion it was a HUGE red flag. Although I will concede the fact that Belmont also shot 50% from the field. Ok, back to Ingle. With about 12:30 minutes left in the game the owls are up big (16 or 18 not exactly sure). He benches Ronnell and as you all know runs the clock. When I say run the clock i dont mean to like 15 or 10 sec. The owls, for almost 12 whole minutes, were throwing up shots at 5 secs and less. I understand running the clock, but the Owls were not productive at all, it appeared like the team was just kinda standing around waiting for the clock to run. I mean at least pass the ball and keep the defense moving or something. Also, you best scorer is on the bench and you're holding the ball. TONY YOU WERE SHOOTING 50+%!!! DONT TAKE THE BALL OUT OF THE SHOOTERS HANDS WHEN HE, OR IN ACTUALLY THE WHOLE TEAM, IS THAT HOT!! Sorry for caps, just trying to show my frustration even in a big win for our team. I will close out this rant with an interesting stat. Ronnell, according to the boxscore, only played 28 mins (ridiculous IMO), but he scored 30...he averaged roughly a point for every minute he was on the floor.
