Notre Dame Recap
Absolutely fantastic First Half-but could of been up by 15 or more but the fouls kept ND in it.

Look, the second half was really strange...It was the Softest ASS-Kicking I've witnessed in a while versus the Bearcats.

Williamson goes down and its falls apart in the second half-among other things--

The first half there were quite a few moments of Bearcat swagger and it was great to have it from Belton.

This game keeps it moving in mostly the right direction!

Bearcats got absolutely HOMERED--the stats bear it out--Huggs would of been T'd-But I'm cool with Mick's professional comments.

This schedule is perfectly made for players! Bearcats don't have enough trained up yet-and that's understandable

RE: Notre Dame Recap
interesting perspective -

cats could have played a little better D in the second half.

"But I'm cool with Mick's professional comments."

not sure what that means.

Giving up 64 points on 67% shooting is not good defense. Refs were bad but that doesn't account for most of it. When ND went on their run UC wilted and got away from their game plan. One bad half does not make a season. They can bounce back, starting on Saturday.

RE: Notre Dame Recap
There was a definite loss of composure by the cats, especially Vaughn. It was triggered by bad refs, but the players are the ones who let it affect them. There is no way we win that game, but it could have been a little closer if the refs didnt make some bad calls/non calls.

For a moment I thought the officials were in Notre Dame's locker room at halftime03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

I don't think the bad officiating cost UC the game. I think the poor defense in the second half did.

But I do think the poor officiating inflated the point margin in the victory. The officiating was very bad and ND wouldn't have shot that many FG's had the officials not been blind.

RE: Notre Dame Recap
"Mick's Professional comments" is a way to say that during the game (no 'T') and after (w/ Chuck) he did not seem to get too far gone about the Ref's--last year I would of compared the deal to Huggs--I'd of been pissed that he and the Bearcats just took IT-regardless, the Homer job did not cost the game but it did give ND a Huge comfort zone to play in.

I'm OK that Mick's focus will be somewhere else-not on the Refs-180 from Huggs-and hopefully it will pay off--but what has to be ironed out is the ability to withstand a run and not crumble...way too early (in rebuilding) and way too inconsistent to see any trend where that mentality from this program will be-

That run was fueled i part by the no call on Harangody's travel down the lane and the traveling call on Deonta when the didn't get room to come down with the ball. Correct calls there may have halted the run a little.

Sykes' airhead pass leading to the easy basket to give them the lead by one was the death rattle, IMO.

I disagree. I watched the game last night and on the out of bounds pass, Bishop got shoved out of the way by Notre Dame's #42 (whoever that is). #42 scooped it up and got an easy layup. It was so blatant I was surprised it wasn't called.

I will recant my bad officiating comment. Watching it the first time, you get caught up in the game and want to blame someone - and the officials are always a good target.

My opinion after re-watching it is that UC doubled down in the first half on Harangody but managed to still cover the three point shooters. In the second half, they would double down, but weren't doing anything about the open man. Also, offensively, UC was making quick crisp passes and had good ball movement on offense.......in the second half, they resorted to alot of one on one - and basically bad shot selection. Vaughn was considerably horrible - he had like 4 or 5 unforced errors that were converted into points for Notre Dame, in the second half alone. Easily Deonta's worst game of the year.

Warren actually had some luck attacking the basket. He scored like 6 points driving into the low post, but had a couple of times he lost the ball.

And Harangody got most of his points from the FT line. He had a couple of good shots.......one where Adam was guarding him pretty well, and he turned and did a fade-away jump shot that swished. He also turned out of the double team and did a reverse layup to score. And then Kurz got double teamed in the low post leaving Harangody wide open under the basket, Kurz passed to him for an easy 2. But other than that...........Harangody traveled on that fast break layup he got..........and he made an ugly shot from just inside the FT line where he quickly turned and threw the ball toward the basket....it clanged across the rim, rolled around and went in......and Harangody was laughing with his teammates running down the court knowing it was ugly and lucky it went in. Everything going their way. He made a couple of shots like that. He mostly did a good job passing out of the double team or living at the FT line.

Even Biggie had good defense on Kurz late in the game. Kurz got the ball for a layup, Biggie put up his hands, Kurz jumped up with the ball, Biggie got his hands on the ball pushing down, Kurz started going back down from the peak of his jump and double pumped the ball against the backboard and it went in. Biggie just lowered his head in frustration.

The second half low post defense was actually pretty good. Harangody had to pass out of it most of the time. The frustration was with McAlarney and Zeller nailing all those wide open three's.

And our unforced errors just killed us.

Positives:
1. Low post defense is improved. Need to work on covering the three or recovering out of a double team.
2. Belton - gave hope that he can actually contribute
3. McClain - made a couple of short jumpers in the low post.
4. Score was worse than the actual game. Offense needs to keep up the good ball movement of the first half.

RE: Notre Dame Recap
how about the fact that we somewhat blew up when ND put the pressure on in the backcourt...

changed the game...

we seemed to lose our poise...

We did. Crowd had a hand in that, too. There is a reason they have won 31 in a row there.

Yea...

I do not know if anyone has ever been there...but I have been in bigger high school gyms...

actually twin domes, the other holds the hockey rink...side by side...they can get really loud even if not very full...

intimidating for a visiting team...
