I just don't get it. There was a group with investors lined up that wanted to turn the Pyramid into an aquarium.

I've been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Aquarium of the Americas in NoLa. They're both really cool.

I haven't been to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga or the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, but they do well.

So this is the big deal in little small town nothing to do Springfield. It looks nice for that town but never for the riverfront in a major metropolitan inner city like Memphis. Get real folks. Do you really wanna see the beautiful landmark pyramid turned into a fish bait shop?03-banghead[Image: 15_9184668_15.jpg]

I agree Tigerloyal, if anyone is using the one on Sycamore View as a reference, they are misinformed.

I've visited the one is Springfield, Missouri. How about you? Let's see boats, fishing gear, hunting gear, speed boats, and other outdoors equipment are sold. Stuffed petrified animals adorn the entire store. What else?

it's true that most of the BPS are MUCH nicer than the one on Sycamore View, but I don't think it needs to be a part of our skyline that greets people the minute they cross the river.

i have no problem with BPS building a superstore here, just don't do it at the pyramid, or as a part of the riverfront redevelopment.

Exactly. That one they just finished on I-30 on Lake Ray Hubbard in the DFW area is beautiful. If people wouldn't want that in their city, then they have no idea what they are talking about.

I doubt there was a group with actual money that wanted to build and run a aquarium in the pyramid.... the Georgia aquuarium had a donor give $100,000,000. That makes it a lot easier to do and makes it hard to compete for a company that has to pay interest and/or inverstor equity returns. Aquariums are over done now, it will be hard for all ofthem to survive from an operational standpoint.

Can anyone describe what makes EACH of the 50+ stores 1) unique; and 2) world-class attractions to visitors not just of the hunting variety but visitors around the world? I'm open to information. Stats are preferable.

Because I think everyone can agree that the occupant of the Pyramid must be 1) unique; and 2) world-class. So the 51st location of a chain won't cut it. The unique flagship/headquarters of a chain might. A collection of unique flagships of various retailers/attractions definitely would (a la the St. Louis Galleria, although I don't want solely a mall, it's "where all the best stores put their best store"). That's the kind of vision this project deserves.

Well, we aren't limited to just an aquarium. Memphis is the birthplace of numerous innovators. We can come up with an idea to create a world-class center of natural education (not *that* natural, you pervs 03-razz).
