MWC Expansion
The usual expansion threads are surfacing again on the MWC board. Boise State seems to be a popular choice. If you can't produce your own champion, just steal one. Some say that Boise fits their footprint, if Fresno State or CUSA UTEP was in a BCS game last season, they would suddenly fit the footprint. ;-)

As usual, expansion threads litter the other WAC board as well. But while we consider Boise State, Fresno, Nevada, and UTEP, you consider UC Davis, Montana, and Sac State. LOL.

Some people in the WAC would prefer to mention SDSU and UNLV. But...those programs are "dead-ends".
Go with UC Davis. Their "up-side" is limitless.
I think the MWC should look at some D-1aa schools as well. The MWC has two loses versus D-1aa schools in 2006. ;-) They'd "instantly" improve your conference.
A losing record against the WAC. A losing record against D-1aa.
All I can say is.... ;-)

Consider Boise State? It sounds a little more like Boise State Envy. If you can't grow a BCS champ, just steal one and hope for the best, TCU, ring a bell? ;-)

I don't know what's worse, hearing the expansion talk which is completely unrealistic or having to deal with BYU fans trolling the WAC boards. Wait! I do know which is worse.... BYU fans trolling the WAC boards is like the bubonic plague.

I have always thought Boise should be in the MWC..They are in the neighborhood, they play great football and football drives the bus in college sports. Other than with Nevada and Idaho, Boise really doesn't have a lot of long term rivalries in the WAC. They don't have any in the MWC but the MWC is a new conference and are building a new tradition..Boise just makes sense.
I have never had any interest in Nevada joining the MWC because they have been playing schools like San Jose (for more than 100 years), Fresno and USU for close to a 100 years. College sports should have a sense of tradition , regional appeal and long term rivalries..Reno is 10 miles from California and should stayed aligned with California schools.
Though I know it won't happen, I would like to see Nevada Southern and San Diego State in the WAC for the same reason. Although it will require some patience, I like the idea of adding Davis when they are ready to jump.
For now the WAC is a good fit for Nevada..At the moment, it's a good fit for Boise too..Still, to me anyway, the Broncos are better suited to the MWC.
I am far from convinced that the MWC will be expanding anytime soon, though..

.As far as from a regional view you can make a good case for Boise, but if they were not winning, they possibly would never be mentioned. Lets give them Idaho, they are also residing in the neighborhood. ;-)

Convince the other 33-50% of Bronco fans that Boise St wants to stay in the WAC and I'll believe that statement. This is without getting into public statements made by your ad.

The MWC invented busting the B_$. The WAC just tried to copycat, as always, but couldn't even match the end of the season ranking. And BSU is a MWC-caliber school, unlike most of the Sunbeltish WAC.

Yeah, who can forget that thrilling win over Pitt (one of the worst teams in the history of the BCS games). That was pretty awesome dude.

Ah yes...the ever popular "my school is better than yours b/c my school plays in 'such & such' conference and your's only plays in 'that sucky one'" argument.
This tiresome argument is one of my favorites...
Heads up preachermars! :bean: :moon:
I wonder if the mWc apologists know what this emoticon means....

Yeah right!, the MWC didn't invent busting into the BCS Bowl. Only one far superior school from the rest of the conference that season did, UTAH. Lets give credit to the mighty UTAH Utes, they got there before BYU and any other original MWC school. Boise State got there next, not the WAC, just a WAC team. I guess if you want to make the case that Utah was better than any other team in the MWC that year, that's fine, same goes for Boise State being the best team in the WAC last year. But the topic was the MWC trying to steal what you no longer seem to be able to grow. Heck, your most recent transplant, TCU seems to have a decent chance to make it to a BCS Bowl this season, it's a good thing you have them, otherwise it could be another BCS flop year for the MWC.

The problem with adding Boise State to the MWC is how they will preform over the long term........Idaho isn't a hot bed of 1-A football talent like Southern California.
Rice is rarely mentioned for MWC expansion because of their attendance problems.......but in their favor
1. A 70,000 seat football stadium
2. Big media market of Houston
3. Excellent Academics
4. Natural rival for TCU, BYU, AFA
5. Very good budget for a CUSA school
6. Long standing athletic tradition
7. The name "Rice" has a lot of national recognition
