Some of the talking heads were suggesting that Carroll had a small chance of taking the Atlanta job (he has since turned it down) because there could be sanctions coming and they might have to forfeit some past games, which means USC losing at least one of their national championships.

If true I hope USC gets what they deserve. Nonetheless there needs to be more punishment or stricter laws vs. boosters.

The NCAA doesn't award national championships in college football unless you play I-AA, D2, or D3. They can't take away something they never gave out to begin with. Now would the AP and the Coaches' poll make them return the trophies? I don't know.

If the NCAA makes USC forfeit games then USC would have to forfeit their national championship. I'm pretty sure that the AP and BCS would go along with that if games were forfeited. It's the same thing that almost happened a few years ago. When it was stated that the NCAA could make Ohio State forfeit games that Clarett played in, it was said that Ohio State would have also have been stripped of their national championships. The AP and BCS recognizes the NCAA when it comes to wins and losses.

As long as the NCAA (or maybe with help from the NFL) can't impose personal penalties/fines vs the players that commit these violations, situations like this will always go on.

Players can get their money...and most probably will careless if their former school gets put on probation.

It's all about ME!!

Here is the problem. The NCAA did not make Ohio State forfeit Maurice Clarrett's games so there may already be a precedent set in regard to Reggie Bush's games.

I think forfeiting past wins is an empty gesture anyway. Do the teams that actually lost on the field feel any better about themselves as a result of paper forfeits?

A real penalty would be to make the team lose 10 scholarships per year for the next five years, ban the team from bowls, and ban the team from television as well.
