Only Nevada and Hawaii are in action this week. Most people start next weekend.

Too bad Nevada lost. I think they're going to be real good again.

Same story, but different result: in game 2, Nevada took a 5-1 lead into the 7th, St. Mary's came back to tie, but Nevada scored in the 9th to win it (6-5 final).

Game 1 quote: "...we left five guys on third base with less than two outs," Nevada coach Gary Powers said.

Congrats on the win CL.

I'm expecting a great baseball season from the WAC this year.

I'm interested to see what SJSU brings to the plate. I thought both Nevada and SJSU were playing the best ball at the end of last season.

I think if the pitching is there, like it was last season, the WAC sends 3 teams to Regionals.

NMSU won the Alumni game 8-6.

Looking at the roster for next year I don't recognize half the players on the team. Why does our coach insist on recruiting so much transfers with only 1 or 2 years of eligibility instead of going after nothing but high school players with a few transfers here and there?

It's ok in college baseball. Because there is no age limit on the draft--like all of the good high school players get drafted out of high school anyway. And if you're lucky enough to get a an awesome player to play for you--chances are you only get them for 1-2 years because they'll decide to go pro.

The turnover is high every year. But that can be good about baseball too--because it's a lot easier to rebuild after a bad season.
