BC Possibly Playing Rutgers in 2008?
BELIEVE IT OR NOT: BC COULD BE ON SCHEDULE

Time really does heal all wounds.

The latest proof: Rutgers and Boston College have had informal contact about playing in football this fall — both schools need an opponent — and ESPN has said if they do, the network could televise
the game as a Thursday night special on Sept. 11, according to multiple people involved in the discussion.

The people requested anonymity because of the nature of the discussions.

Then there’s the whole Boston College vs. the
Big East thing.

It was Boston College that nearly caused the demise of the conference when the Eagles bolted to the ACC four years ago, with Miami and Virginia Tech following. The Big East recovered by snapping
up Louisville, South Florida and Cincinnati from Conference-USA.
Plenty of acrimony still remains from Rutgers’ side, but people involved in the talks say Boston College would be willing to come to Rutgers Stadium next season and would not require a return trip until six years later.

Rutgers and Boston College played in the firstever Big East game in 1991, with the Knights claiming a 20-13 victory over the Tom Coughlincoached Eagles. Boston College then went 12-0-1
in the next 13 meetings against Rutgers, culminating with a 21-10 victory in 2004.

Rutgers needs a game against a BowlSubdivision opponent after Buffalo opted out of its contract to play the Knights this coming season. It appears to be a good time to play the Eagles.

Boston College will lose eight starters to graduation from an 11-3 team that won the Champs Sports Bowl, among them record-setting quarterback Matt Ryan and standout safety Jamie Silva.

Rutgers also is looking for a game against a Championship Subdivision (the old 1-AA) opponent to complete its 2008 schedule.

Good for them, I don't really hold it against a Big East team for playing those teams. The Big East has done much better then imagined. After losing those teams the Big East has, arguably, had its best seasons, including finishing with 3 and 4 ranked teams at a time, 3 BCS bowl wins, and the biggest television contract in conference history. Everything worked out for everybody.

I don't hold it against BC either. As long as they lose the game to Rutgers, and any other member of The BEast they play.

In my opinion, I think its good if we can stay on good terms with BC. I think that during the next round of tv negotiations that the BE will be right on par with the Acc as far as tv deals go. In other words, we may have approximatly the same per school dollar average as the acc has then. We are not that far off right now. We are closer to the acc than any other league I believe. With that and the fact that the BE is becoming more and more visible, there may be a chance that BC comes back. Especially since they are not being treated by the Acc as well as they were in the BE.

I hate what they did to the BE, and it makes me upset everytime I think about it, and their fans, I just cant stand them. But BC was the one school that I really hated to see leave. its not like they were some national power. Miami, and VT were much better fb schools, but when BC left, i cant put my finger on it, but it just did not seem right. I would eventually like to see them back in the league. But until then, I will dislike them more than any other school in the Acc. 05-mafia

Then again, maybe I miss them so much is because they were the one BE school that we could always beat, no matter how bad we are, or how good they were.03-lmfao

Big East teams need to get them on their schedule at some point.

The BEast actually should have a better per team average when all is said and done. Attendance figures have climbed steadily in The BEast. Our teams have traveled far better than ACC schools. And our teams have performed far better in BCS bowls.

My animosity goes farther back. BC has killed a couple of attempts to form an all-sports conference in the east. That's the reason we have this b@stard conglomeration we call a conference at present, instead of a real all-sports conference with established rivals.

Doug Flutie was 0 for the Mountaineers. Flutie never defeated WVU during his college career.

How did Syracuse vote on a Penn State invite? I wonder if Rutgers would have joined the Big East in it's formation if they would have later been able to swing Penn State in. Oh well, as the story goes being seperated from Penn State was the reason they declined the initial invite.

What does Penn State have to do with this thread?

Welcome aboard Rutgers! There's really no reason BE and former BE teams shouldn't play each other in the future. There is still a long-stading history and it helps everyone out in the end in terms of scheduling.

That's why Syracuse and BC are resuming their rivalry in 2010 when they begin an annual series to continue indefinitely. 'Cuse also has a home and home scheduled with VT in 2010 and 2011.

VT won't schedule WVU, even though we are one of their biggest rivals. They lose to the Mountaineers too often to want to play us. 04-rock

UCF is also in the mix.

Whether it ends up being UCF vs. Rutgers, Rutgers vs BC, BC vs UCF, UCF vs Louisville or BC vs Louisville is beyond me, but something will happen soon.

RE: BC Possibly Playing Rutgers in 2008?
BC-SU Game:

BC really doesn't have a 'rival' in the ACC. The ACC didn't give them Miami as their cross division rival - they got VT. And the BC-VT game wasn't considered a rivalry in the BE.

SU doesn't have a rivalry in the BE either. The teams they have played the most in the BE - Pitt and WVu don't see the Orange in their top 3. Pitt's top 3 would be (in no particular order) WVu, PSU, and ND. WVu's would be (again, in no particular order) VT, Pitt, and Maryland or PSU.

Therefore, this is a good game for BOTH schools. I hope they can end the year with this game - and also couple that to a USF-Miami game. 04-rock

UCF canceled a game with Pitt next season. If they have an opening, they should be honoring that contract.

As noted in the press recently, that game was canceled, it was moved to 2012.

Rutgers vs. BC, especially with Rutgers hosting on national TV, is a no brainer. If it can be worked out, I hope it happens. You can't cut off your nose to spite your face, as the saying goes. It would be a good OOC home game for Rutgers. Sure, helping BC in any way, shape, or form is distasteful, but Rutgers needs to look past that and do what is best for them.

Does Pitt have an opening and would they be willing to move the 2012 game back to 2008? These are important questions, but maybe you know the answer?

Looks like Rutgers picked up Howard for their I-AA. Also looks like UCF and BC are going to play each other. Hopefully we find a good OOC opponent.

We have 11 confirmed games for 2008. The belief is that Bowling Green is the 12th but it hasn't been confirmed yet.
