ESPNU - Status?
Heard that ESPNU is making a serious "push" out West.
Anybody hear anything?
I know Karl mentioned that the WAC and ESPNU would open talks again after football season, but...haven't heard anything since.
Is ESPNU going to be part of a "sports package" out West...or are they pushing for first tier?

I just noticed the other day that ESPNU was added to the digital tier of Cox cable in Las Vegas, so maybe their really is something going on?

Yep. Looks like ESPNU is finally making a push out west...finally.
They need to give the WAC a "fair shake". As a western conference, we're getting pretty darned good. And we also schedule Pac-10 teams.
Just like this year, ESPNU tried to grab the Stanford vs. SJSU game right off the bat. The WAC said: ESPN-who?
ESPNU is going to be important to the WAC future...as is...ESPN and ESPN2.
I'd prefer that a deal be done "up to" 2009/10. Then ESPNU should be negotiated into our new contract.
I also hope a "Regional" deal gets done before football season next year. FSN would sure be nice. The WAC is going to be a pretty good football conference in 2007.

I'd love to see it happen, but it might force me to go with the dish and get rid of Comcast - dabnabbit.

I know what you mean Wolf. I don't have ESPNU...and up to this point...don't need it. No "Western" D-1a conference has ties to ESPNU as of yet.
The WAC "will" have ties eventually...and we "will" be the only Western conference that ESPNU will be affiliated with.
But...it hasn't happened yet...so ESPNU can flounder until they sign a contract.
I like the fact that the WAC finally has the clout to...hold out. ;-)
