The winner of Boise State/Utah has a good chance, and I'm rooting for the Broncos.
TCU also has a decent chance based on last year, and BYU/Nevada/Fresno State/UTEP all have outside chances as well. The MAC has really tough schedules, so I'm not expecting much from them besides an upset or two (no Top 25 rankins, at least not for more than a week or so somewhere early or in the middle perhaps).
If you assume that a mid-major has to go undefeated to be involved in the extra BCS game, which schedule would you choose? Let's assume that mid-major getting the BCS bone will go undefeated, at home, regardless of who they play.
WAC Candidates:
Boise St
@Wyoming, @Utah, @NMSU, @Idaho, @SJSU, and @Nevada
Fresno St
@Washington, @Utah St, @LSU, @Boise St, @La Tech and @SJSU
Nevada
@Fresno St, @Arizona St, @UNLV, @Hawaii, @Idaho, and @La Tech
Hawaii
@Alabama, @Boise St, @Fresno St, @NMSU, @Utah St
MWC Candidates:
BYU
@Arizona, @Boston College, @TCU, @Air Force, @Colorado St and @Utah
TCU
@Baylor, @Utah, @Army, @UNLV, @New Mexico, and @Colorado St
Utah
@UCLA, @Utah St, @SDSU, @Wyoming, @New Mexico, and @Air Force
C-USA Candidates:
Southern Mississippi
@Florida, @Central Florida, @Tulsa, @Virginia Tech, @Memphis and @Tulane + C-USA Champ Game
Central Florida
@Florida, @Marshall, @Houston, @Memphis, and @Tulane+ C-USA Champ Game
Tulsa
@BYU, @Navy, @Eastern Carolina, @Memphis, @Houston, and @SMU
UTEP + C-USA Champ Game
@SDSU, @New Mexico, @Houston, @Tulsa, @UAB, and @Marshall +C-USA Champ Game
Of all of those candidates, here's how I'd rank the schedules (Top 5) from least difficult to most difficult:
1. Tulsa
2. Boise St
3. UTEP
4. TCU
5. Utah
Given what Boise St did in 2004 with a similar conference schedule and the same QB they have now, I'd place my bets on them. Tulsa, second and TCU third (given that I think TCU is a better team than UTEP).
