Quote:HJ: Why did you turn down Idaho?

Verlin: It was not a good fit. They have a great AD, and I think it is a great institution. Them competing in the WAC is a little over their head. I?ve been on the winning side of every team I?ve ever coached. I didn?t want to put myself in a position that maybe you couldn?t win. I?m not sure you can win at Idaho. Leonard Perry was pretty good and couldn?t find a way. It is a really, really tough job in the WAC. In the Big West, it would have been different. I just didn?t feel for my first head coaching job, that was a good place to start.

Any plans to change from astroturf to sprintturf?

The list of basketball coaches who turned down the Nevada job because they thought there was no chance to win there is as long as your arm..
Idaho is better off with a coach who isn't afraid of a challenge..

Plans are in the works...
First, do you think Verlin really said those things? Those words do not sound like words that should be coming out of a potential head coaches mouth. Sounds to me like he is afraid of the challenge...he is happy recruiting for winning team, instead of working hard to build a winner.

Second, we have just picked an architectural firm to design a Kibbie Dome expansion and new Basketball arena (that will be connected to the Dome, but not the "on the field" setup we have now. I have heard numbers from 23-28K in the Dome, and 6-8k for basketball. These will both be a significant upgrade.

Plans will be unveiled at Idaho's 1st home game against Idaho State, Sept. 16th on our NEW Jumbotron. 04-rock

That's good news, styner! 02-13-banana Thanks for the reply. Your new BB coach is going to need a nicer stadium to recruit to. I'm sure Erickson wouldn't mind a better FB facility, either. The WAC's new schools, including USU, need to be on par with the rest of the WAC as far as facilities and I certainly hope that Idaho is on board at this point. We can't have anyone being left too far beind.

Keep us posted when more detalis come. 04-rock
