Big East vs. CUSA in football
UC vs. Southern Miss coming up is the latest chance for CUSA to pick up a win against the Big East in football. Just out of curiosity I checked back thru some recent seasons to see when the last time a current member of CUSA beat a Big East team....

and the most recent one I could find was 9/23/2000, East Carolina beat Syracuse 34-17.

Since then - over 7 YEARS AGO - current members of CUSA are 0-23 against the Big East, while being outscored an average of 38-15.

52 7 Pitt over UCF / 10-13-2006
26 20 Pitt over UAB / 9-14-2002
24 6 Pitt over UAB / 12-1-2001
27 7 USF over ECU / 12-23-06
24 17 USF over UCF / 9-16-06
31 14 USF over UCF / 9-17-2005
38 14 SU over UCF / 9-20-03
38 35 SU over UCF / 11-2-02
44 30 SU over ECU / 9-29-2001
21 10 SU over UCF / 9-8-01
42 10 WVU over MU / 9-2-2006
27 10 WVU over ECU / 9-23-2006
20 15 WVU over ECU / 9-24-2005
45 20 WVU over UCF / 9-11-2004
56 23 WVU over ECU / 9-4-2004
36 18 WVU over UCF / 11-1-2003
48 7 WVU over ECU / 9-6-2003
37 17 WVU over ECU / 9-28-02
42 24 WVU over ECU / 11-18-2000
48 7 WVU over ECU / 9-22-2007
48 23 WVU over MU / 9-8-07
64 12 USF over UCF / 10-13-2007
40 14 UC over MU / 9-22-2007

I went thru the records quickly so it's possible I missed one, but if this is accurate - DAMN. That's quite a streak for the Big East, regardless of the conference opposition. 23 straight wins over CUSA teams for the Big East.

Does anybody see a CUSA win that I may have missed?

C-USA football is pretty bad right now. Why even compare?

Why don't you do one of those for the big east versus every other BCS conference. That is what the big east is, a BCS conference. Should be fun, I am guessing, if you use the SAME criteria, that is, the current big east teams, it would not be too flattering to the big east. I'll wait to see it.

Actually I think the opposite is true. The Big East would compare favorbly to other BCS conferences.

Since it was re-configured, the BE has had only one poor season vs. the other BCS conferences, and that was 2005. Between last year and this year, the BE has had a winning record, as Waco has pointed out.

RE: Big East vs. CUSA in football
The best C-doa has this year, UCF, would finish 9th in the big east this year. Pitt would destroy them, just like they did last year, Syracuse would be their 1 chance at a win, but i think cuse still has a better team. After Cuse though theres no chance of UCF beating any other Big East team. In fact i think most of them would be as ugly as the USF game this year.

Actually Phil our record against other BCS Leagues is pretty good since realignment. That is one of reasons why our BCS Computers Rankings are so high. Just let me say this, we are 6-1 vs. the SEC since realignment.

My C-DOA school is about to enjoy our 4th bowl game in 5 years. C-USA football is a long way from reaching full potential, but we will soon enough. You can't keep a geographically-sensible, 12-school, all-sports conference comprised of a blend of institutions having class, tradition, academic excellence, large markets and championship potential in a variety of sports down forever.

What does the Big-12 have to do with this discussion?

Just curious. I couldn't remember the last time a CUSA team beat a BE team, but I didn't realize it was 23 straight wins. That's pretty impressive, regardless of which league the streak is against.

Considering we had the best OOC record last year of any BCS league, i'm guessing you'd be surprised how competitive we are.

But I was curious about CUSA, and that's what I looked into. If you want to show us all how the BE stacks up against other BCS leagues, feel free to do the research and post your results.

UCF's attendance would put us in the top group of the Big East. The wins will come next...

Very true. And I don't think 9th in the Big East is where UCF would end up. I'd imagine they'd at least make a bowl in the Big East this season so Top 5/6 teams.

RE: Big East vs. CUSA in football
Looked a little more... apart from the Pac-10 (and CUSA v. Pac-10 matches are few and far between), CUSA teams have beaten at least 1 team from all the other BCS leagues more recently than their last win over a BE team:

CUSA v. Big 12
Houston 34
Oklahoma State 25 (9-23-06)

CUSA v. SEC
Tulane 32
Mississippi State 29 (9-16-06)

CUSA v. ACC
ECU 34
North Carolina 31 (9-8-07)

CUSA v. Big 10
Southern Miss 23
Illinois 20 (9-7-02)

With ULM's win over Alabama this year, I'd say the 23 game streak by the BE over CUSA is the longest by one conference over another in the nation. It would take more research to say for sure.

RE: Big East vs. CUSA in football
Well I decided to take his challenge on and since realignment the past THREE years.
The Big East is 26-27 vs BCS league teams
vs Big10 3-9
vsBig12 2-2
vs Pac10 2-2
vs ACC 13-13
vs SEC 6-1

So yep we are holding our own vs BCS leagues and not going 0-23 vs them.
03-lmfao So Phil, try again.03-lmfao

I know - i was listing the most recent CUSA victory against each of the other BCS leagues.

The point being that CUSA teams have beaten at least 1 team from all the other BCS leagues (apart from the Pac-10) more recently than they've won a game against BE competition.
