RE: What will the Big East look like in 2010?
I think they add st louis U and either c flordia or memphis to get to 18 than extend the pact for another five years or so when the issue of a split or no split will be addressed again. Yet, i don't know what the big 10 will planning to do and that no doubt effects the big east.

Trained Goose will still be chasing his tail trying to add ND, Penn St, Army and Navy to look like he is trying to help the football schools. They will still be rejecting the overtures then too.

The college presidents will still be ignoring the AD' plea to add another team to address the football scheduling issues.

The basketball faction will still be blocking anything the football schools need to make things easier for them and continue to look out for themselves and their own security. They need the football schools or they become irrelevant as a league except for G'town, Nova, and maybe Marquette.

The universities get fat and lazy on the current TV contracts so the issue of a split is dropped especially since the BSC bid that pays the football bills is still in place.

The universities continue to put championship caliber teams on the field and basketball courts so basically in 2010 for the BIG East there is NO CHANGE.

DING DING DING, we have a winner. I could see us maybe adding a Football only member like UCF or more then likely a Memphis-(they can put their other sports in the MVC, the MVC would be an upgrade in Basketball as compared to the current C-USA.).

Why would we add memphis and not add their basketball? Drop st johns or providence and add memphis as an all sports. Then we are fine.

RE: What will the Big East look like in 2010?
Nothing happens in 2010. There is no one team that will garner 12 votes, and conferences will soon figure out that oversized football conferences can cause more harm than good to secure BCS bowl positions.

But I will predict that one of the five schools that does not play any football will publicly review their commitment to the Big East and there will be plenty of chatter here about replacing them. In the end, they will stay.

RE: What will the Big East look like in 2010?
The FB schools have to have long range planning, & sitting there at 8 and waiting to get pick apart is not a plan. Some of these schools have to be wondering how they will survive in the BCS if couple schools have offers from other conf. If the BE goes to 12 & they lose couple schools they can survive

Unless there is some significant chatter coming up in the next few months or so, I’m afraid this may be the case also.

However (for those wanting a split); the wildcard in all of this may come from the basketball side of the football playing schools. If teams get snubbed again this year for March Madness because of the size of the BE, the talk of change may pick up a little more steam.

lol, you're the one stuck in your own world if you think the 8-8 is a stroke of genius. There is already resistance to it. Besides, weren't you and some of the C-USA fans saying that at some point the BCS was going to force BCS conferences to play a championship game? And that other BCS conferences are going to eventually get upset with the Big East's 8 team conference compared to the 10 to 12 team conferences the other BCS conference has? Sounds to me like the Big East will have to split and expand.

Another wildcard in this is Tranghese, Syracuse, Connecticut and Notre Dame. Tranghese went behind everyone's back and partnered with Notre Dame in order to save the conferences and keep the basketball schools in the fold. The football schools were ready to go. Boston College and Syracuse were two of the main schools spearheading the move to split. Syracuse and Connecticut were resistant to leaving the b-ball schools behind thus the split fell apart in October of 2003. But today I would think that Syracuse and UConn would be firmly in the football schools corner. I also get the feeling that Notre Dame's spot in the Big East has more to do with Tranghese's fast talking then it does the football schools feeling that "need" Notre Dame. The football schools would probably leave Notre Dame and form their own New Year's Bowl in a hot second if push came to shove.

One thing to add though is that the Big East football schools needs Cincinnati basketball to return to national prominence in order to facilitate a split. The football schools are going to need strong basketball, and with it being a small league some of the national name schools are going to have to step up. It could be a situation where unknowns step up, like in Big East football, but basketball is a different animal. Cincinnati basketball returning to prominence and the return of Connecticut to the national rankings would help a ton.

Claw, I never said the BCS was going to force anything, others may have, I did not. You know as well as I there will be no split and that there is no change in the works.
