signs downtown, or anywhere for that matter, that are directing you toward the interstates must be able to get you there in four turns or less, or the sign should come down.
i was leaving mount adams today, and came out onto gilbert. i saw a sign directing me toward 71, and decided i'd just jump on the highway and take that instead.
big mistake. just because you see a sign, doesn't mean you're jumping right on the highway. i eventually ended up downtown, following one sign after another directing me toward 71. after finally getting there, i can only get on going south, but htere was another sign directing me on how to get on going north. after making several more turns, i'm a good mile further away than where i intended to jump on initially. the entrance to the highway ended up being the entrance on gilbert. i ended up on the same street i was on initially, but in the opposite direction of where i wanted to go.
this could only happen in cincinnati. i can't imagine what the drunks must think who come into town for bengals/reds games, and then rely on the signs to get them back on the highway.
yes, the signs did get me to i-71, but my proposal that if following the signs is more of a scavenger hunt than a simple direction, then they shouldn't be there.
my ordinance has been stated and the floor is open....

That, sir, is a very worthy ordinance, but a question if I might. Howthehell does a person with XU in their screen name get lost coming off Mount Adams. If you were on Gilbert, you couldn't find XU?

I too have had more than my share of difficulties trying to get out of that area. I was ok until the new stadiums went up and now it is not uncommon for me to try to go north and somehow end up in Kentucky. Based on that Brew, I guess you did well to actually find your way without crossing the river.

i don't go into mount adams much. it's awesome scenery and i have nothing against it, but it's just not my scene. i'm much more familiar with clifton, northside, and the west side than i am mount adams.
i knew how to get to where i was going, but when i saw the highway sign i just decided to hop on the highway and go that way instead. i know never to do that again.

Brew,
Its city council's way of revitalizing the central business district.....hijack auto travelers and funnel them into the ghetto.

i'm a little concerned that a gps system in the urban areas of cincinnati could possibly cause some sort of explosion. signs really aren't helpful here. people that have lived here for a long time probably don't fully realize that. when i first moved here, i thought simple things like the montgomery avenue exit on i-71 would actually exit you onto montgomery avenue. it doesn't. neither do a lot of other exits. you need to learn your way around. i've lived here off and on since 1998, and there are parts of the city where i still don't know my way around. if you're lost, forget the signs. they won't help.
i lived in dayton for a couple of years when i was in grad school, and that town would throw mapquest off more times than not. that town isn't nearly as difficult to navigate as cincinnati. if there is ever a suspected car bombing in an urban area of cincinnati, it may not be a car bomb at all. it may be a gps system exploding because it reached the breaking point.
