Maybe. Seems like he always wanted to be a Rebel. Still semi-discouraging.

RE: FB Commits Thread
well that's too bad. If he is capable, he could have competed for the starting RG position vacated by Andy Smith. But if he really wants to play center, he'd probably have a harder time dislodging Beliles and Riley, unless it allowed them to move elsewhere. I imagine Tommy probably thought he'd vie for the starting job if he offered him one of our limited scholarships. I thought I remembered hearing that OL wasn't as big an emphasis this year.

It shouldn't be, that was our main focus of last years class along with LB, but i bet he wanted to get someone with a bit of playing experience to come in and start right away.

He is a juco all american and an academic all american. He plays center and is about 6'2" 315.
If he was an academic all american, what was he doing at a JUCO? :lmfao:Probably found out he was gonna have to actually study at the University of Memphis. Looks like a good roommate for Oher.

Oakland Steve. You got the Will Hyden story right. Will would of had a decent chance at getting another year but the athletic department did very little to pursue that option.

Yep, those things happen. Obviously he grew up an Ole Miss fan, so it's not like you can blame him for taking the offer.

Another side note that I thought was interesting is that Jocques Crawford is apparently coming in some time in January for a visit to Oxford. He doesn't have an offer yet, but he apparently wants to come if we'll offer. We'll see what happens there, but that's one kid who has a track record on him. He apparently says that if we don't offer, he'll probably go to TCU. And just when I thought a guy like Crawford had disappeared from the face of the earth, he reappears.

John, thanks for clearing that up. Rip told me Will didn't want to play any more and chose not to pursue the extra year.

Considering his reputation or notoriety in this area I would think Crawford would stay away from the local area. Maybe he doesn't see it as a negative thing?

Had he committed to Memphis? If so, I can blame him and Ole Miss for two reasons. One reason is that he gave his word and then breaks it. I am more respectful of Hall's attitude that "my word is my bond." Secondly, it comes across that he used Memphis' offer and his acceptance of it to parlay it into an offer from Ole Miss. So he used us as a stepping stone. And Ole Miss used us as a talent scout. Not good.

It is discouraging to have a player give you his word and then back out of it. . .but, if it was his dream to play at OM all along, it's hard to blame him for jumping at the chance once they made him the offer. The whole "word is my bond" thing doesn't seem to apply to the world of college athletics.

Apparently, Tommy was unwilling to put his hands between the kid's legs and take a snap in his office.

I don't remember the exact stats, but I was looking last week at the national Juco stats for this year and Crawford has had a big year. It is possible that he has matured from some of his bad decision in high school.

Just because it doesn't apply in sports doesn't make it any less wrong. I'm sorry, but if you're not sure, then don't commit yet. It really is that simple. I felt the same way about the twins in basketball. Good riddens to them. In EVERY thing in this world, your word is all you have. At least that's the way I was raised. (no, not back in the day, I'm not even 30 yet. I was just raised right)
