Well uh coach, your team is 0-6 and has lost every game by three touchdowns or more. Your son isn't the next John Elway and you insist on running the fullback trap every play because it worked once late in the fourth quarter of a blowout loss. I think it's time to give the kids a dose of reality and let them know there are times when it is okay to give up. They aren't making it to the NFL in their lifetime and you need to stick to your day job as an Amway salesman and let one of the other fathers start their son at quarterback over the one kid on the team that can actually throw the ball.

Well, the time to give up isn't during a game, or during a season. It's not about the NFL career. That's completely missing the point. It's about trying your hardest and overcoming obstacles, it's about developing resilience that would serve you in college when you're pulling all-nighters or serve you at your first job when you think you're in over your head. Developing the pattern of trying your hardest and putting your all into everything you do starts at an early age, and at that early age children absorb those lessons with different things, including sports. Sports lessons do transcend the actual sports.

Someone always has to have a stick up their ass.

I think this should be moved to the NTR forum. I used to think that it was silly to have more than one forum, but now I see the light. It's very frustrating to have to weed through all these inane, not-tiger-related posts to get to the real stuff that matters.

We should probably have an administrator's forum just for administrators to post in, too, you know for the really good stuff.

I guess the best thing was that he got cancer and started the foundation. He should have apologized for what he had done at NC St but he didn't. He was sorry he got cancer.

I hope you are this much a caring person to everyone. Sheesh. So if a person breaks into your house and steals your stuff and never says they are sorry, but years later developes cancer and starts pouring money into St. Jude, then he deserves to die and be known as a POS for when he broke into your house?

Come on tommy, give the guy a freakin break. So he did some bad things in the past but that doesn't mean that you should be a insensitive prick over it.

I don't mean to pick on your post, but is there something about crying that we're afraid to say or admit? We are always feeling pressure to dilute the term, and replace it with "sweat," or "is the air dry in here," or other bullsh!t terms. You cried, I cried, we have to accept that we cry. Especially in light of what Jimmy V said, he's absolutely right, and it's part of living a full life. And being men, despite what society (blue-collar, southern, northern, whatever) says, imo requires us to admit and accept that more than it requires us to deny or cover it up or suppress it.

And F those who would mock you or me for not only crying, but admitting it with that accurate term.

End rant, and sorry for isolating your post for it.

I have no problem saying that I cry...I cry a heck of a lot. I cry when a St. Jude commercial comes on television. I was just using a bit of symbolism...that's all.

I cry every month when my wife's Neiman Marcus bill comes in.

It looks like someone is rooting for cancer to win.

RE: Jimmy V. Speech 1993 ESPY's...
Actually I heard pretty much the exact same sentiment expressed by Tommy at my kids' school yesterday. Two dads were talking and they both agreed.

I don't think anyone is saying that Jimmy V DESERVED to get cancer and die . . . . I think the sentiment is how ironic that he is idolized for fighting cancer in a very public and certainly inspiring way when he was also well known for many less inspiring and less valiant life choices.

These folks are attempting to look at Jimmy V on the whole of his adult public life and they are seeing irony. Personally, I see their point even though I value the funds raised by Jimmy V's popularity to the benefit of cancer research. My own mother is a 5 year breast cancer survivor and I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when my twin daughters were only 4. Even in spite of my obvious affection for causes supporting cancer research, I will admit that I can see their point without accusing them of being heartless, in so many words.

It is a sad, sad day when it's the posts on the so-called miserables board are more chipper than over here! We're going to a bowl, we have a basketball team that has a legitimate shot at the National Championship, and we're officially in the holiday season . . . WHAT is going on?????? I may be on the outside looking in, being a frequent reader but not frequent poster, and I don't think I know who very many of you are in real life . . . . but I haven't seen such snippiness on this board in awhile and I'd like to propose a holiday-inspired moratorium on personal attacks...

I think we need a cyber singing of a little Kum-by-ya!

Nope, I never said Jimmy V deserved to die or get cancer. His foundation is great but he was a very bad guy. Don't get it mixed up. He should not be looked back upon as a good guy. He lived his life breaking rules left and right. When he was fired barely 5 years after winning it all he was not offered another job. Other schools ran from him as fast as they ran from Dana Kirk if not faster.
His foundation is great. His memory should not be. JMO

Just thought I would point out as well, man is the only "animal" that cries.

holy crap....that phrase gets used on here by almost anyone & everyone who comments on something emotional, yet you single him out?

03-melodramatic

did you read my post in its entirety? I already indicated I wasn't intending to single him out. I just had to respond. Next time I'll just start a thread to address a general issue.

For the second time, I did not intend to single him out. I just wanted to address one of the false machismo pi$$ing issues that we have all grown up with.
